family: Ol'Grandma...She ain't what she used to be. - 03/02/12 03:37 AM
The elderly population are much different from their parents and grand parents.  I found this poam, Author Unknown, but it just fits even my wife so well...
In the dim and distant past,When life's tempo wans't so fast.Grandma used to rock and knit,Crochet, tat and babysit.
When the kids were in a jam,They could always call on Gram. But today she is in the gym,Excersising to keep slim. She's check the web, surfing the net,Sending some E-Mails or placing a bet.Nothing seams to stop or block her,Now that Grandma is OFF HER ROCKER
This brings back so many memories!

family: Make sure you make time for the kids. - 02/23/12 10:00 AM
I was real busy this evening.  I was trying to get some work done so I could just relax and catch up on my reading.
As I walked pass my Grand Daughter who lives with us, she said..."Come and Play my new racing game, Grandpa."
Maybe later, I said and I kept on moving.  Well, maybe about 10 steps and I thought...What a simple request.  My work can be done a bit later with no problem and I can always read my books and magazines.
So, I told my Grand Daughter...Sign me up and I sat down.
I got the … (12 comments)

family: Minnesota Deer Hunting Opener. AKA: Thank God the Husbands are gone, Weekend!!!! - 11/05/11 11:06 PM
I hear a lot of the "Poor Wives"  they have to stay home.
First off, they don't have to stay home.  Most want to stay home.  Many of the wives hunt a few years and then realize that they had a better time ... SHOPPING!!!!!
Yup, it may be the Deer Hunting Opener, but the retailers know that they need extra help for the onslaught of ladies shopping.
A good friend Had just gotten married.  The agreement was that she didn't care how much he spent on hunting as long as she could spend as much.
Well, after just of $2500 … (12 comments)

family: 42 years and counting! - 11/05/11 12:36 PM
This is the 42nd year my dad and I have hunted together opening weekend of deer season.  That is longer than my 2 marriages put together.
Dad is much more restricted in his movements, but it is still an important day for the two to us.
Although we did not see any deer, we talked about the memories of past hunts and the old jokes form years past.
Dad is resting now and I will hunt more in earnest the rest of the day.  A good breakfast given with love from my mom, and I am set until this evening after … (4 comments)

family: I went to a foreign country this past weekend. We had a nice time! - 10/31/11 01:19 PM
Yes, we were gone for the weekend.  We visited a foreign country and saw the grand kids and celebrated my step-sons birthday.
Other than the cheese hat he wears, he is a good guy!
WE went on a Nature walk that had cartoon characters along the 1 1/2 mile path.  The kids dressed in their Halloween costumes and collected candy as they met the different characters.
It started out as a frosty morning...
The Nature walk was beautiful...Not to warm and no wind at all.

Shame on me, but I do not know my princesses.  I was just glad … (7 comments)

family: Happy Birthday Ray! - 09/11/11 02:42 PM
Today is my Father-in-law's 90th Birthday.

He is doing well for 90, although health issues are starting to creep in.
We had a small get together to celebrate and took a moment out to remember the fallen on this day.
This family has been blessed in many ways and I wish Ray another care free year.
Happy Birthday Ray!!!

family: Spending time with Family - 09/10/11 01:48 PM
Today i had a chance to spend time visiting my parents.
My dad is still down after his stroke 5 years ago.  The mind is starting to go but at times he is sharp as a tack.
Visiting ailing parents or other family can be really hard.  Knowing what they were like not all that long ago can be hard to watch the decline.
But we need to put ourselves in their shoes.  If it were us in their place, how would we feel if no one stopped in to see you.
Then there is also the care givers that need … (9 comments)

family: Leave it to a child to know. - 07/29/11 06:06 AM
A young family man was being deployed oversees.  He was explaining to his young son that he would be away for a while.
Son, I am going to Iraq for 6 months.
"But dad, replied the son.  Why, son't you know there is a war over there!
We may not think the kids listen or understand all of the time, but given the chance you will be very surprised more times than not.

family: The Birds and the Bees...some light humor. - 07/28/11 02:38 PM
You never know what a youngster will say or when they will say it.  Most times they will accept most any answer...if we can think of one!
On the way back from Cub Scouts a young boy asked his Father...
"Dad, I know that babies come mommies tummies, but, how do they get there?"
Dad shifted in his seat and hemmed and Hawed a bit and shifted some more...
The bay finally says..."Dad, you don't have to make up an answer.  It's all right if you don't know the answer!"

Dad just found out the hardest speach in the world … (11 comments)

family: A trip down memory lane...at least for some of us! - 07/14/11 01:55 PM
WE were traveling a while back and came to one of those 1 room country school.  (A second room the rest room was outside).
Now, I did go to a country school for a very very short time.  OK!  it was for one day and only the morning!
But, my area had several of these iconic schools spotted around.
Now, I could talk about walking to school 5 miles one way, up hill both ways, but I don't plan on mentioning it.  My memory is of the play ground.
The entire school could fit on this thing and have room for … (6 comments)

family: Day 12 of the Minnesota Government shut down. - 07/12/11 02:28 PM
This is  a pain for many people, but for some new lessons are being learned.
I was having lunch with a client and I overheard a couple of guys talking...
"I can't believe that I have extra money in my pocket as of late."
"Why?" asked the second.
"Well, with this stupid shut down I can't buy any lottery tickets. I didn't realize how much I was spending.  This weekend I took the family to a movie.  We haven't been to a movie in years.  Can't afford it.  Well, thanks to the fools on Capital Hill, I can now afford it. … (11 comments)

family: Happy Birthday DAD! - 06/11/11 04:31 AM
Dad's has tipped the 80 scale.  Even after suffering a crippling stroke nearly 5 years ago he is still going strong.
Dad is my best friend.  Has been all my life, even when I didn't realize it.  His inner strength keeps him going although at times it is not easy at all.  (Some credit to my mom)
So, today we will celebrate with family and friends from far and near, young and old alike.  We are never to old to make new memories!

family: Don't forget DAD on this Mother's Day. - 05/08/11 01:45 AM
To some, this may sound out of place.  But, just think about this for a minute.
Those of you who have lost your Mom, but still have Dad, today can be an emotional one.   Some Dad's will have tried to move on and re-married or at least have a steady friend.  Others are going it alone.
The point is, Dad is also thinking about your Mom and his early loss.  Give him a call or stop by and share a few memories with him of Mom.
It is an easy way to brighten the day for him.
This also works … (11 comments)

family: Are you ready for those unexpected days? - 04/05/11 02:48 PM
Spring can be a real unexpected weather driven time.  Just today the severe storms in the south east devastated some communities and brought heart ache to  many families.
Today, over 1300 storm warniings were put out.
But, Let's not concentrate on the bad.  Lets look at how prepared you are for a disasster or more like how UNPREPARED you are.
If disaster hits could you survive for a week without help.  How about 3-4 days?  One day?
Let's look at some things you need to have to be prepared.
A GOOD flashlight with extra batteries.Several gallons of fresh drinking water.Canned … (8 comments)

family: It is the calm after the storm. - 03/20/11 09:48 AM
It was a Birthday weekend and the house was full.  We had a great time and I even git in some business without disrupting the celebration.
Now, everyone is gone and it is quiet.  The weather is cloudy and misty and with all my business all caught up I am thinking of taking a nap.
The tough part is that it has been so long since I have taken a nap, I am not sure I remember how.
Well, there is only one way to find out....

family: The Have's and Have not's! - 03/11/11 09:55 AM
This is an oldie, but a goodie!   We sometimes forget how lucky we are in this country.  With the disaster in the world today...we need to remember some of this...
With Money you can buy a house, but not a home.
With Money you can buy a clock, but not time.
With Money you can buy a bed, but not sleep.
With Money you can buy a book, but not knowledge.
Wtih Money you can buy a doctor, but not goo health.
With Money you can buy a position, but not respect.
With Money you can buy blood, but not life.

family: He is having second thoughts! - 03/04/11 12:40 AM
A good friend got married a bit over a year ago 44 and single, he jumped in the frying pan with both feet.
Our circle of friends gave him all the encouragement he needed..."What?!  ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!!!"
But, he didn't listen.  Last night he was crying in his beer because he had to miss a Basketball game that he had front row seats in just to go to a party with his wife.
Why didn't you guys stop ME?!"  Oh well they never listen.  Case in point...

family: It has been a great day...time for a little Levity - 02/22/11 11:56 AM
It was a great day on many fronts today.  I feel very light on my feet, so I think I will share the mood.  Please remember I am laughing at myself.  Please join IN!
A man walks into his bedroom and finds his wife packing her suitcase...
"What are you doing?" he asks her.
"I am moving to New York.  I hear that prostitutes make $400 for what I do for you for free."
Later as the sife is about to leave, she sees her husband packing his suit case.....
"And just what are you doing?" she asks...
The Husband replies..."I … (13 comments)

family: You took my Place!!! - 01/25/11 11:03 AM
Every now and again I receive an E-Mail that I am happy to pass along.  Common courtesy is one thing that is lacking in our modern day society.  Although, this could have taken place anytime in the last 100 years...it still fits today.
A man decided to visit a local church.  He got there early and pulled into a parking place.  Another car pulls up alongside and a man get out..."Hey, you took MY parking spot...I always park there!"
The visitor went inside and found an empty seat in Sunday School.  A young lady approached him and said..."You took my place, … (13 comments)

family: The Anticipation of 'Black Friday' is over powering! - 11/25/10 03:43 AM
With the Holiday company milling around the women talking about 'Black Friday' deals is dominating their conversation.  Us guys for the most part are not interested in getting up at 3 or 4 am to save 3-4 dollars.
Getting up to get to our hunting stands, well, that is a different story.
What the guys feel is this...THANK GOD for the early morning and all day sales.  It gets the ladies of our lives out of the house and we can listen to the game real loud or yell when we play cards.
Now, we just need to find some Christmas … (8 comments)
