minnesota deer hunting: Deer 1...Hunter Bill 0... - 11/18/14 06:37 AM
Well, my deer season is over.
It was great fun.  Warm then a 17.5 inch snowfall.
Then below remps.
I was after a certain buck this year.  I have never tried that before.
I had many photo's of him, but always at night...and he stayed that way.
No one on surrounding properties seen him either.
Bur, next years is another chance and maybe he will make a mistake then.

minnesota deer hunting: Busted... - 11/14/13 07:48 AM
Yup, I was caught.
Made feel real stupid.
I thought I was covering myself up well, but I was still caught.
Next time I will have to be much more careful.
I don't know how that deer noticed me, for I was sitting real still and all of a sudden, she got really nervous.
She back up and headed the other way.
She was not my intended target, but I am afraid that she blabbed!

minnesota deer hunting: It is 3:57 Am... - 11/08/13 07:35 AM
My alarm was set for 4:15, but I can't wait any longer.
Opening Morning of Deer hunting is hereand I have a 45 minute drive ahead of me.
I was like Santa Claus last night.  I checked my list several times to make sure everything was ready.
I have just 10 minutes to get loaded and on the road so I get to my destination at the time I want to.
Once in my Deer Stand, I just need to be able to stay awake!

minnesota deer hunting: Rambling thoughts from a Deer Stand. - 11/10/12 03:06 AM
I have been asked what I do when sitting in my Deer Stand.
I watch for Deer.  Is my usual reply.
But it did get me thinking a bit.  What do I really do.

Getting up in my Deer Stand my first thought this years was...I gotta lose some weight and get in better shape!
I then marveled at the night evolving into day.  I look around and my mind wanders...
What should I get my wife for Christmas.  (Maybe a NEW gun)I don't remember that tree bending over like that. What was that? (a noise behind me)I really hate to … (27 comments)

minnesota deer hunting: A benefit of sitting in a tree. - 11/05/12 08:56 AM
I did some hunting this evening.  Tonight, I had visitors.  2 fawns spent about 45 min. of the evening within 100 feet and as close as 30 feet.

This youngster is a doe.  How do I know?  As most vets would tell you...look under the tail  (Old Joke.)  After observing these two I can tell that this one does not have the pedicles (spelling?)on the top of the head where the antlers will grow.

The sibling here is a buck.  Look just to the front or left of the ear,  There is a light brown spot.  If you could … (18 comments)

minnesota deer hunting: Deer Hunting weekend one is done! - 11/04/12 10:14 AM
I had a great time and a very  relaxing time.
I got caught up on family gossip and many friends that also stopped by.
But, now it is time to hit the grind stone.  2 closings to work on and an offer coming in tomorrow night.  No rest for the wicked.
It is  always good to get away.
No, I ddin't get a deer.  I could have but it was not the one I was looking for.  As I have said before, it is the hunt I enjoy, shooting the deer is secondary.

This little bird is the only thing … (6 comments)

minnesota deer hunting: It is Opening Morning of the MInnesota Deer Opener. - 11/02/12 10:41 PM
It is about 6am and I am safely in my tree.  (Although my wife says I am out of my tree getting up at 4 am to sit in a tree).
It is a calm crisp morning about 20 degrees.  Almost no sound except for a distant creature rustling some leaves.
Soon, the chickadees will start flitting around and a slight hint of day light will appear.   slowly, the day will awaken and I will be able to see more than 5 feet in front of my face.
Some out there are saying...You call this fun?
Yes, Yes I do!  I … (8 comments)

minnesota deer hunting: Minnesota Deer Hunting Opener. AKA: Thank God the Husbands are gone, Weekend!!!! - 11/05/11 11:06 PM
I hear a lot of the "Poor Wives"  they have to stay home.
First off, they don't have to stay home.  Most want to stay home.  Many of the wives hunt a few years and then realize that they had a better time ... SHOPPING!!!!!
Yup, it may be the Deer Hunting Opener, but the retailers know that they need extra help for the onslaught of ladies shopping.
A good friend Had just gotten married.  The agreement was that she didn't care how much he spent on hunting as long as she could spend as much.
Well, after just of $2500 … (12 comments)

minnesota deer hunting: 42 years and counting! - 11/05/11 12:36 PM
This is the 42nd year my dad and I have hunted together opening weekend of deer season.  That is longer than my 2 marriages put together.
Dad is much more restricted in his movements, but it is still an important day for the two to us.
Although we did not see any deer, we talked about the memories of past hunts and the old jokes form years past.
Dad is resting now and I will hunt more in earnest the rest of the day.  A good breakfast given with love from my mom, and I am set until this evening after … (4 comments)
