paying it forward: I love to see the eyes light up. - 04/04/13 11:54 AM
My wife and I stopped for dinner in our favorite small town diner.
Our waitress was a young lady talking about graduation.   Now, most everyone in the diner, (about 6-7) were talking with this young lady.
She was talking about getting ready for college and the things she needed.  "I am going to the 2nd hand stores and asking friends and relatives for any extra things I may be able to get to furnish my room with."
WE heard one say they had a microwave, some had extra dishes and cookware.
But she said she needed a toaster and a coffee … (11 comments)

paying it forward: If you are Adopting a Family for Christmas...you need to call NOW! - 12/01/11 09:54 AM
My wife and I have adopted a family or two for many years.  We love to see the faces light up.  We also do some anonymous giving also.
There are many families that can use a hand this year and if you are so inclined, you need to call and get the names and a list RIGHT AWAY!!!!
Where should you call?
Salvation Army.
Good Will.
Churches.
City Hall.
Food Shelves.
Most any organization in your community that helps the unfortunate can help you with the name of a family and what their needs may be.
Can't do an entire … (13 comments)

paying it forward: A lot can be done when you enlist the help of others. - 10/06/11 01:40 PM
I was approached by a friend for help and advice.  It seams that someone he knew had an accident was was off work.  Money was very tight as he had no disability insurance.
I also seams that a circle of friends that wanted to help didn't have any extra cash either.
After a brief brain storming session I came up with a great idea.
Recycling.
This is a rural community and everyone seams to have a pile of old scrap metal.   With the price around $180 a ton, it sounded like a great idea.  The word was put out and over … (7 comments)

paying it forward: I received help in return! - 08/06/11 03:30 PM
I bought an outside wood stove.  I got it home and the way I had planned on unloading it was not working.   at over 1600 pounds, it takes a lot of tweaking a bad idea to make it work.
The stove has been on the trailer for 2 days, and this evening Sam form Little Alaskan Cabin Company called and asked if I needed help unloading.
I told him my problem and he said he would be right over.
Sam shows up with his Father-in-laws large tractor and loader.
In 10 minutes we were unloaded and talking about him … (7 comments)

paying it forward: The cleanup after the Storm. - 08/03/11 02:06 PM
No, PLEASE...Do not get me wrong.  I am not complaining.  I know there are a lot of people who have had it much harder than I have with this last storm.
Today was the second day of cutting wood.  That isn't all bad as it is a jump on this falls firewood for my furnace.
WE had a lot of help.  I cut for 11 hours, I kept 4 people busy pulling branches and stacking wood.  I used a gallon of gas and sharpened my chain 6 times.  (Those of you who cut firewood knows how much that is.)
After all … (8 comments)

paying it forward: Massive Heat Wave...What about your fellow man? - 07/15/11 03:12 AM
The country is in another large scale and dangerous heat wave.  We see many posts here and even news stories about our Pets and the needs they have during the hot weather.
But, what about our fellow man.  I have not heard much about that.  So what should and could we do?
Scenes like this will be common all over the various cities but there are many who are unable to get to this kind of relief.
The elderly and disabled are two groups which may need our help.  I start with relatives that are close by and make sure their … (8 comments)

paying it forward: It was a very short 4th of July weekend for us. Paying it forward.... - 07/06/11 11:45 AM
We usually head for our cabin on Friday evenings.  This year, there was a storm brewing and with a few other things going on we decided to head out early Saturday morning.
Well, the storm hit on Friday and power was out.  Trees were on the road where I could not go a quarter mile either way from my house.  I put on my old clothes and started my chain saw.
When i was done clearing the road and checking on the in-laws and neighbors my phone rang...a good friend about 4 miles away got hit real hard.  They had a … (12 comments)

paying it forward: It is Spring here in North Branch, Minnesota! - 04/30/11 07:39 AM
Mother Nature has blessed us with Moisture,  2 inches since last night.  The one thing different is that it is LIQUID moisture.
The pond in my back yard isn't white and it is overflowing.
This new rain has set me back about two weeks now for building my new Building.  Clay ground does not dry out real quickly.
But, at least I can say that all the rest of my buildings are still in one piece.
I could complain about the set back, but, heck...I have seen a lot worse in other areas.
I am looking at going and helping somewhere with … (5 comments)

paying it forward: Easter...some families are still in need. - 04/10/11 12:29 PM
Here is a thought for all you generous ones out there.
A friend volunteers at the local food shelf.   The need is as great as ever, but the biggest need right now is...
EASTER.  The need for Easter treats and baskets is very high this year.  Many of us acknowledge the regular need, but, we many time forget the other need.   the Kids.
Kids don't understand the problems of finances.  Give a kid a a Happy Easter and donate some Easter cheer to your local food shelf.

paying it forward: Still paying it forward... - 02/07/11 10:24 AM
My wife and I had been in town doing some odd errands and we took a different back road home.  We were about 3 miles from home when my wife seen where someone had gotten stuck in their drive way.
"You should come back and do them a favor and plow the driveway for them."
"I agree, I haven't went out of my way for someone in over a week." I replied.
I had time right away so I jumped in the plow truck and headed back with my wife.   When we got there, there was a young lady with … (15 comments)

paying it forward: Winter time is a Great time to pay it forward. - 12/12/10 01:56 PM
Boy, I only wish that I would have remembered my camera.  Some really great photo's were just waiting for me.
Anyway, today as I was driving between plow jobs, I came across this lady trying to shovel the end of her drive where the plow had piled up the snow.   For those of you who have never had the pleasure..when snow is pushed by what ever means, it packs and gets hard and heavy to move.
The strange thing is that I don't take this road very often.  It was just on a whim.  When I drove by, I thought she … (10 comments)
