pets: Are your pets taken care of? - 07/21/14 09:26 AM
90 Degrees and 70+ dew points make for harsh conditions.
Not just for us, but for our pets also.
Make sure they have plenty of water and a place to get out of the sun.
If you go to town, leave the pets at home and not in the hot car.
Those of you on farms, the water and shade for your prized animals is also neccesary.
Be a good care taker for those that depend on you for survival.

pets: Dehydration...Not just a human problem! - 12/06/12 08:55 AM
With the Flu season we hear "Drink a lot of Fluids!"
This is true and the same goes for just everyday living.  more issues are caused by dehydration than anything else.
But, it isn't just us humans that can suffer.  Our pets that are tied and do not have access to water are also at risk.  The colder it gets, the more fluids they need.  Water is needed to keep the bodies blood moving for warmth.
Lets take this one step farther...Our friendly critters of Mother Nature.  When the cold get's below freezing it is hard for the birds and animals … (14 comments)

pets: Why some men have a Dog and no Wife. - 04/18/12 10:35 AM
I know I will catch some flack with this, but hey, I know the ladies will dish it right back.  They just need a reason sometimes.
So, Why do some men have a Dog and no Wife???
1) The later you are the more excited the Dog is to see you!
2) Dogs don't know if you call them by another Dog's name.
3)Dogs like itif you leave a lot of things on the floor.
4)A Dog's parents never visit.
5)Dog's agree that you need to raise your voice to get your point across.
6)Dog's find you amusing when you are … (20 comments)

pets: For all the Dog Lovers.... - 05/09/11 05:09 AM
I know that many of my fellow Rainers love their pets.  Most would do almost anything for them as they are just like their kids and other family.
A clean pet is a happy pet, but you must take care in this process...
A young boy goes into a small grocery store.  He asks one of the men stocking the shelves for a  small box of Tide.
"Well, what are you using it for?" asked the man.
"I am going to wash my puppy with it."
The man replied. "Well, that may not be a good idea.  The Tide might kill … (13 comments)

pets: Pet Health...Outside perils. - 05/24/10 03:31 PM
Today, it was 94 with 58% humidity.  Now that can be a bit rough on us people...but what about our animals that are outside.
Heat stroke is a common thing for our pets, so here are just a few things to think about...
1. Does your pet have enough clean water to make it through the day?
2. Does your pet have a way to get out of the hot sun?
3.  Unexpected storms pop up every year...does your pet have a shelter if one is needed to get out of the elements?
4. I your pet is restrained...is it in danger … (13 comments)

pets: Dog For Sale...Humor - 04/15/10 10:43 AM
Now, I used to own a pet shop and have seen all kinds and sizes of dogs.  But I will say, this one takes the cake.  The lady is selling him for financial reasons....

DOG FOR SALE  Free to good home! Excellent Guard dog.  Owner cannot afford to feed him anymore, as there are no more Drug Pushers, Thieves, Murderers or Molesters left in the neighborhood for him to eat! Most of them knew Jethro only by his Oriental street name...
HO LEE SCHITT !!!
Unless this lady is a midget...This is one big dog!!!!
I just had to share … (19 comments)

pets: Undeniable Pet Truths! - 04/27/09 10:35 AM
For more that 16 years I owned and ran  Pet Shop.  I heard  all of the stories about what my customers pets were doing.  How smart, how maddening, and how cute.  This is a list I seen many years ago that still holds true today...

Buy a dog a toy and it will play with it forever.  Buy a cat a present, and it will play with the wrapper for 10 min.
Although cats are rather delicate animals, and are subject to a great many ailments, I have never seen one suffer from insomnia.
Dogs and cats instinctively know when their … (17 comments)

pets: Our Furry friends need attention NOW! - 03/20/09 09:25 AM
Spring is upon us and now is the time to give our pets some yearly care.  Being in the Northern areas we have difernt needs compared to everyone in the south, but the basics are the same.
1. Yearly check up.  Update vaccines, rabies, lyme disease, tick control.
2. Clean up around your out door pet.  There is a lot of stuff around now that you pet can get into.  Things they may chew on that really isn't good for them.
3.  Puddles of water.  BIG DANGER!  Make sure your pet has enough water on hand.  Otherwise they may drink out … (4 comments)

I know I blogged back in october or so about the need to take care of our pets in the cold climes.  Well, I just happened not far from me.  The families dogs (4) we under feed, not housed and nearly dead.  How can you have a pet and not take care of them.  It is a big resposiblity tham many should not have.
I am sure there are a lot more out there...including larger animals.  Please, be kind!  If you can't take care of them, find someone who can!
Not all animals are able to handle the elements like … (11 comments)

The owner of a home in the Bittinger,MD area come home to a surprise.  A fawn deer was laying on the sofa next to the families beagle.  It had to have followed the dog in through the doggie door.
This was  big hit with the Media as it put this story in front of the political stories of McCain and Obama.

pets: Another life saved from the wilds of the World! - 08/07/08 10:23 AM
I came home to day, and my wife told me to look under a box in the yard.  A bit skeptical I did, you never know what she may have up her sleeve, and I found a Rabbit.  A full grown, Lop Earred Rabbit.  Now, she has been wanting a "Bunny" for a while now, but, a little one, not one big enough for dinner.
I checked it out thinking it may have gotten away from someone, but our nearest neighbor is more than a 1/4 mile away on one side and 1/2 mile on the other.  The poor thing was … (5 comments)
