Canton MA has an Open Town Meeting form of government.  There is a five-member Board of Selectmen who run the town and oversee the town administrator, but the legislative body is made up of the citizens of Canton.  All registered voters in Canton MA are eligible to attend and vote at the Annual Town Meeting.
Annual Town Meeting commences tonight, Monday May 11th at 7:00 pm at Canton High's Morse Auditorium.  It runs until approximately 11:00 pm and runs every consecutive Monday and Wednesday … (5 comments)

canton ma: 2015 Easter Events in Canton MA - 04/01/15 10:44 AM
We may still have snow on the ground but it is April and Winter 2015 is in the rear-view mirror.  And what an historic winter it was.  Everyone is ready to move on to SPRING!
With Spring comes Easter.  There are a few Easter events going on this weekend in Canton MA.  If only the Spring weather would come along with it.

Every year the Canton MA Parks and Recreation Department holds an Easter Egg Hunt.  Normally it is held outdoor at Pequitside Farm but because of the cool temperatures, predicted inclement weather and remaining snow on the ground, … (4 comments)

canton ma: It Was the Best of Times, It Was the Worst of Times - Winter 2015 - 02/23/15 03:04 AM
So maybe it was really the worst of times..........
The winter of 2015 has hit us hard in Canton MA.  With about eight feet of snow being officially recorded in Boston, we are dealing with towering snowbanks, school closings, transit problems, roof collapses and more.  This past week in Canton there were two deaths associated with people falling after clearing snow off roofs. Another homeowner was injured after falling off a roof.  In addition, there was a gas explosion and fire at a commercial building caused by a snow-covered frozen gas meter that caused gas to back up into the building. … (5 comments)

canton ma: Canton's Dean S. Luce School Presents: Robin Hood - 02/04/14 09:50 PM
Robin Hood - he steals from the rich and gives to the poor.  It's always an appealing story!   Last month I wrote about the JFK Elementary School's production of Mystery at the Museum.  This week, it is time for the Dean S. Luce Elementary School's production of Robin Hood.     While each of the schools does a great job with their plays, the Luce School Play will always hold a special place in my heart because for six years I ran the play as the parent coordinator (a/k/a the producer), working alongside a very talented and dedicated director.  It was definitely a labor of love.  I … (2 comments)

canton ma: Time to Fall Back in Canton! - 10/30/13 02:09 AM

While I don't like the fact that it will be getting darker earlier, I DO like the extra hour of sleep that the time change will bring!  Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night!  That way you will be on time for whatever is on your calendar on Sunday!

That extra hour of sleep sounds pretty good right about now.
On Sunday, November 3rd it's time to fall back. At 2am on Sunday, you will turn your clocks back one hour.
Now most of us will do this … (3 comments)

The event was originally the idea of a couple of teachers who came to the CAPT to promote it as a fun event and not necessarily a fundraiser.  It has turned into a good fundraiser and a fun annual … (1 comments)

canton ma: Blizzard of 2013 in Canton MA - 02/08/13 11:22 PM
And no, I don't mean "Nemo".....local stations are not using that name given to this storm by The Weather Channel....they are referring to it as the Blizzard of 2013.

We were all tucked inside here by noon yesterday and there was a State of Emergency in effect as of 4:00 - no driving allowed except for emergency & medical personnel.  It was not a real problem for me as my office is in my house.   It was incredibly windy last night & I could hear the wind howling all night long. You can see the wind blowing in this … (8 comments)

canton ma: Welcome to Canton High School - 10/21/12 06:25 AM
Welcome to Canton High School
The students, faculty & staff of Canton High School in Canton MA recently put together a "lip dub" to show off their school.  It was the idea of one senior in the TV Production Class.  The video was primarily student directed and produced.

Welcome To Canton High School - Lip Dub from Daniel Sheehy on Vimeo.
I think they did a fantastic job!  Each student group is represented at one point throughout the video.  From all accounts, not only is it a great introduction to the school, the project brought the entire school together.

canton ma: (Almost) Speechless Sunday.....Dance Recital - 06/17/12 12:00 PM
(Almost) Speechless Sunday....Dance Recital   It's the moment you have all been waiting for.  Well...probably not  really!  Last fall I wrote about signing up for Tap Classes.  On Saturday, it was the dance recital for the Hazel Boone Dance Studios.  The adult tap class performed a number to "Hooray for Hollywood".  Below is a video of our performance at the dress rehearsal. (My 13-year old took it so it's not the best....)
My daughters tell me it was an easy routine.  Maybe it was.  But as I had not tapped in 35 years, it was not as easy for … (13 comments)
