In our rural area, builders and homeowners only have to follow basic guidelines set by the state when building a home. The incorporated areas of Safford, Thatcher and Pima do have additional requirements as to county properties in subdivisions. If you are purchasing a property or plan to build in an area where the legal description is "metes and bounds" then there are some things to be aware of. 1. Check the permitting. Many homeowners self-build additions or enclose carports without building permits. This becomes problamatic both for the construction itself and for counting any addiitonal square footage at resale.
