massachusetts: Its A Beautiful Day On Cape Cod in Falmouth MA! - 07/24/10 03:07 AM
The reports of rain on Cape Cod are once again creating an opportunity! If you are wondering WEATHER or not you should let the CLOUDY reports of anti-BEACH sky DAMPen your travel plans - wonder no longer! There are a few gray areas still, but the SUN is starting to dominate!
It is interesting how often the forecasters in Boston and Providence, the area tv stations, get the weather on this side of the bridges, wrong. We often have bright sunny days when there are storms just across The Canal.
If you are wondering if you should wander down, wonder no longer! Falmouth … (1 comments)

massachusetts: Need A Unique Closing Gift Or For Another Occasion? - 07/17/10 07:48 AM
Here in Falmouth, Kevin and Beth Juaire have a great shop that is fun to browse and remember in! It is called Blast From The Past and it is full of just that - memories. They have one of the best selections of nostalgic memorabilia that can be found.
They have Comics, Tin Signs and Lunch Boxes , Collectible Figures, Lunch Boxes, Die-Cast Cars, Reproduction Gas Pumps, Coke Coolers, and Retro Diner Furniture to name a few things! Kevin knows his business and the items in his shop, too. If you ask for a "whatchamacallit", he either has one or knows where … (2 comments)

massachusetts: Skype Me To See What The Weather Is Like On Main Street In Falmouth On Cape Cod! - 05/23/10 05:55 AM
Most weather forecasts tell you what they "think" is happening on Cape Cod. My office is on Main Street in Falmouth MA. If you Skype me, I'll give you a live shot of the beautiful day that is on Cape Cod!
We find that the weather forecasters are all on the Boston side of the bridges. Their radar and predictions don't always show the reality of a beautiful Cape Cod day. But a live shot from my Skype connection can!
So if you have a question about the weather on Cape Cod, particularly Falmouth MA, connect on Skype and we'll give … (4 comments)

massachusetts: MA House Bill To Cut College Financial Aid by 23% in MA - 04/23/10 07:43 AM
There is an Amendment 393 to the House Budget that would reduce the line item for need-based financial aid by $20M (a 23% cut!). This appears to hurt students who are attending independent colleges or universities from receiving any financial aid from the state-sponsored programs. If you or someone your know has a student who relies on financial aid to help pay for college, read this notice.

massachusetts: Water Water Everywhere! And Lots of It To Drink! - 04/16/10 06:27 AM
This has been a rainy year on Cape Cod. A report this month from the Cape Cod Commission says that "... Cape water tables are at record highs." It seems that Cape Cod has an unusual abundance of water.
While flooding that has been seen in other parts of the country has not happened here, high water tables do have an impact on real estate. Engineers use the water table levels to plan future projects and to adjust known factors that affect things like septics, sewers, and foundations. The "extra water" causes re-calculation for annual events, or 50 year or 100 year … (3 comments)

massachusetts: Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange - Phone number - 04/07/10 12:22 AM
These links and phone numbers were corrected on April 22, 2010.  The Call Center can only handle 125 calls at a time so the web site is probably better. Click here.
If you are thinking about new appliances, don't just throw the old ones out! For a limited time you could get an "incentive" from your utility when you get new appliances. Utilities push energy saving appliances, partly by regulation, partly for PR, and partly for business reasons.
The "incentives" or rebates, are available for a limited time period. They are starting Earth Day, April 22, 2010 at 10:00 AM and … (1 comments)

massachusetts: Yesterday's Worry is Today's Problem - New Tax May Mean Job Loss In MA - 03/26/10 12:50 AM
The Boston Globe made the point yesterday in an article by Jay Fitzgerald, that the medical device industry in MA will be changed by the new health care package. The companies that have been making their devices in MA, may have to move their operations out of the state in order to stay competitively priced.
New taxes that come from the latest vote in Washington, were possible early yesterday, and now are definite after the vote later in the day.  The manufacturing companies may try to pass on the new fees to customers, but that will affect sales. how much affect it … (0 comments)

massachusetts: For the first time in 30 years.... - 03/01/10 11:06 PM
Oh My Goodness! Last night the Falmouth boys' basketball team was firing on all cylinders, and they had a nitro conversion kit that kicked in after the first basket!
The link above goes to the Cape Cod Times article, written by Russ Charpentier, who captures the amazement of all the people who were there. Even the Whitman-Hanson coach said that Falmouth was in a different league last night.
It was fun to watch and got embarrassing at the end as Falmouth, who hasn't been this far in the state playoffs in 30 years! There is no one player who ran the show … (0 comments)

massachusetts: I'm A Proud Father! - 03/01/10 03:00 AM
Who knew my freshman daughter could high jump?! A few short months ago she was trying all types of track events. She dashed, she long jumped, and she even put the shot once. Then all of a sudden she was high jumping.
Well, at the MIAA State Meetlast week she placed 8th with a jump of 5' 2". This wasn't her best jump of the year. That was made at the regionals and was 5' 5". However, 8th in the state for a freshman with little experience is pretty good. "Well done You!" as some say.
The state meet itself was an … (2 comments)

massachusetts: Falmouth High School to Play Whitman-Hanson In Semi-Final Basketball - 03/01/10 02:15 AM
Tonight, on a neutral court, Falmouth High School boys' basketball team meets the Whitman-Hanson team at 7pm. W-H has a better win loss record, but Falmouth has beaten teams that W-H opponents have had trouble with. This should be a good game.
Of course I'll be cheering for the Falmouth team to win. W-H has been a Falmouth rival in many playoff games over the years in many different sports. Tonight should be a fast paced, loud, and well played game.
I am looking forward to my nephew Alessio Tranchell and his teammates to work as a team again and move … (0 comments)

massachusetts: FYI: The 2010 Census Is Recruiting Workers for $16/hour - 02/11/10 02:35 AM
A recruiter for the 2010 US Census stopped in my office today. He said they are looking for a few thousand workers on Cape Cod, nd over a million workers nation wide. The work is up to 40 hours per week worked, and will only be for a few weeks in April and into May.
The hourly pay rate is $16 per hour for between 25 and 40 hours per week worked. Census workers will "follow up" on un-returned census packages. The work schedule is weekends and evenings, because that is when most people will be home. The workers will be … (2 comments)

massachusetts: Scott Brown To Thank Voters AND Listen - 01/29/10 12:42 AM
Unfortunately the web site of Scott Brown, Senator, hasn't been updated, but there are numerous reports about his Thank You tour. The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Herald, and other news outlets are reporting that the new Massachusetts Senator will be visiting a few places in the state to thank voters and to keep listening.
Of course I am most happy to write that my town of Falmouth is one of the stops on this thank me/you tour. I have printed a small sign in brown ink that says "Independent Voter". I also stuck the sticker that I got after I … (5 comments)

massachusetts: The Scott Heard Round The World - 01/18/10 11:57 PM
Well, it looks like the political machine that controls MA has its hands full. For the first hour of local talk radio on Cape Cod, there was nothing but calls from Scott Brown supporters reporting their vote and the status of the polls in their towns. Neither of the other candidates had one caller.
It appears that the only hope for the MA machine is to somehow slow the counting or hope they were able to acquire enough absentee ballots to affect the outcome. It wouldn't surprise anyone here if there was some shenanigans with the count. Chicago isn't the only … (1 comments)

massachusetts: Are there Turkeys in Your Town? - 11/20/09 07:25 AM
There are turkeys all over Plymouth MA! One day this last week, I was on the way to a client's home and a rafter/flock of turkeys was calmly causing a trafiic jam. When I got to the the house, the clients knew exactly where I was talking about on the roadway.
Well, if these turkeys were in Texas where I grew up, they would have a lot less feathers. And there'd be a pot of boiling potatoes ready to be mashed, and Cape Cod turnips cooking. Not to mention the tangerine encrusted jello chilling in the jello mold just waiting to be tuened over … (1 comments)

massachusetts: Freedom Friday - Plymouth MA National Monument To The Forefathers - 11/19/09 09:56 PM
When we have taken gratitude and humility before God out of all the schools and off all the coins, what will happen to the monuments like this one in Plymouth, MA? The "National Monument To The Forefathers" is located on a hilltop on a quiet side street in Plimouth.
The inscriptions are chiseled in stone and include the list of Mayflower passengers, a quote from Governor William Bradford recognizing God, and a statement of gratitude that reads, "Erected by a grateful people in remembrance of their labor, sacrifice and sufferings for the cause of civil and religious liberty."
The quote from … (8 comments)

massachusetts: Unique ThanksGiving Cranberry Sauces! - 11/05/09 11:32 PM
If you need something different for Thanksgiving to spice up the usual cranberry sauce, take a look at the selection at Tihonet Market Village in Wareham, MA. They are actually the world's largest cranberry grower. I tried their cranberry vinaigrette salad dressing - very good!
During the growing and harvest season they have tours. I saw a few bogs still being harvested, but the tours have now ended for this year. They have some good pics on their site though.
The market area is open all day for food and cranberry specialties like the salad dressing I mentioned. I forgot to … (1 comments)
