the woodlands: Buyers after Ike! - 09/24/08 06:45 AM
The Houston, TX market is a strange one indeed. Aren't they all? Hurricane Ike brought the mosquitos in swarms but luckily, it brought buyers. We are not in as depressed a market as much of the USA but lately buyers have been in short supply.
Since Ike's exit from the area, we have had cooler temperatures and somewhat less humidity. I am not sure if that is what has brought out the buyers or if it is just coincidence. I sure would like to have the insight to know and a crystal ball but more than that, I am thankful to … (0 comments)

the woodlands: Power to the People! - 09/16/08 09:37 AM
Ike and all his fury has been here and gone. I was fortunate--limbs down in the yard, pool a mess but no real damage. One of my best friends had a tree fall through the house and everything is a mess. Of course, I had the home listed for sale so there is one less listing on the market. But you know, that is not what is important. Her kitchen was wet everywhere, the beautiful wood floors buckled, sheet rock has to be cut out; the list goes on and on. One huge blessing we had was a break from normal … (5 comments)

the woodlands: Sense of Community - 09/07/08 06:09 AM
In today's Houston Chronicle newspaper, there is an article about niche neighborhoods that are being designed to purposely create a sense of community. I happen to live, work and sell in the nation's number one planned development, The Woodlands, TX, so the article caught my interest.
The story told how developers in the greater Houston area are designing homes in a community to encourage kinship by the way the homes are built. Also, the areas are more "neighbor friendly" with wide sidewalks, front porches often and shopping is nearby for convenience.
I am interested in knowing if these niche neighborhoods are … (0 comments)

the woodlands: Way to Go, Highlanders! - 09/06/08 03:10 AM
Honestly, I do not think anyone would have ever guessed that The Woodlands Highlanders would shut out the Katy Tigers at the new Woodforest Stadium last night. I am one of those die-hard fans who has had season tickets for years and years. Because of the long-term relationship I have with season tickets, I have superb seats, with backs and cupholders. Can high school football get any better than that?
Yes, it can! Two shut outs in two games! Many of the long-term, die hards were saying they had never seen a Woodlands team play as well as they played last … (1 comments)

the woodlands: Customer Service - 08/30/08 03:58 PM
Although I am actually a plain and simple kind of gal, I do like to drive a nice car. I am in it a lot, of course, and my clients need to be comfortable. Until recently I drove a BMW 745 Li. It was a very good car and almost completely paid for. I had taken excellent care of it and planned to keep for a while and owe no one! So much leg room in the back seat... Oh, well, all that came to a crashing end when a relatively new driver ran a stop sign at a much too … (4 comments)

the woodlands: Fabulous Church Service, Fabulous Friends - 08/24/08 08:22 AM

Today we had a fabulous church service at First Baptist of The Woodlands, TX. It was the "kick off" to our new year of activities so everyone wore the jersey or t-shirt from their favorite team. Of course, I wore my Tennessee Volunteers shirt! We were having our first service in our newly remodeled sanctuary and it is beautifully. But that is not what made it a great day for me.
The message was about friendship. The pastor said that basically there are 8 levels of friendship and one day I will probably list all 8 and post a … (0 comments)

the woodlands: I just Can't get Past Being Ticked! - 08/14/08 04:38 AM
A couple of weeks ago, I had a call at the office regarding a home our firm had listed. The lady said she was not working with an agent but had called another agent about a home. The other agent had never gotten back to her. The lady and her husband were moving here and needed a home to purchase. They wanted to spend Saturday morning looking at houses. My husband and I were scheduled to leave town on Saturday to drive to VA for our grandson's birth (c-section scheduled for Monday). I very professionally and tactfully explained to the lady … (4 comments)

the woodlands: Elementary Schools in The Woodlands, TX - 08/13/08 07:25 AM
As mentioned in a previous blog, there are 3 school districts that service The Woodlands, TX: Conroe ISD, Tomball ISD, and Magnolia ISD. The marjority of the schools in The Woodlands are part of Conroe ISD. Tomball services the Village of Creekside and Magnolia services the new 400-acres expansion of the Village of Sterling Ridge.
Magnolia ISD's Ellisor Elementary is located at 33040 Egypt Lane and is rated recognized by the TEA. The goal of the school, according to Principal Foy Campbell, is to put kids first in all they do.

the woodlands: Two High Schools in the Woodlands - is one better? - 08/09/08 05:36 AM
As people move into The Woodlands, a major consideration is often schools for their children. We have two outstanding high schools that are part of Conroe Independent School District in The Woodlands: The Woodlands High School and College Park High School. In this post, I am going to attempt to give a little information for the general public as they search for a home.
The Woodlands High School: composed of two campuses, one for 9th grade only at Branch Crossing and the main campus for grades 10-12 on Research Forest Drive. The school was rated academically acceptable by the TEA in … (1 comments)

the woodlands: Olympics Underway - 08/09/08 02:49 AM
I so enjoyed the pageantry and excitement of the opening ceremony last night. The blend of ancient China with its modern emphasis on our world was fabulous. Even though I am one who supports "Buy American", we cannot deny the economical influence the Chinese have on our society.
Those of us from the Greater Houston area, have several athletes from our hometown to support. The Lopez family (actually from Sugar Land) are favorites in Taekwondo. The Woodlands own Laura Wilkinson is returning for her third Olympics. She won gold from the platform in Sydney and finished fifth in Athens. Her coach … (0 comments)

the woodlands: Preparing for Back To School in The Woodlands - 08/08/08 05:09 AM
Due to consistent growth within The Woodlands, TX, there are now 3 independent school districts that service The Woodlands. The location of your residence will determine which of these 3 districts your child will attend. The majority of The Woodlands is serviced by Conroe ISD. The two high schools, The Woodlands High School and College Park High School, that are located within The Woodlands proper are both part of Conroe ISD. There are 11 elementary schools, three intermediate schools, and two junior highs.
The Village of Creekside is serviced by Tomball Independent School District. Students living in Creekside will attend Tomball … (2 comments)

the woodlands: Greater Houston Luxury Market with Emphasis on The Woodlands - 08/08/08 04:39 AM
You might wonder what really constitutes a luxury home. By definition, a luxury home is a home priced above $500,000 or is priced in the top 10% of the local market, whichever is greater. In the greater Houston area where prices vary so, a price of $500,000 or greater is a luxury home. In The Woodlands (HAR MLS area 15, location 107) however, where prices average a little more, a home priced at least $600,000 is classified as a luxury home. In 2007, there were 2549 single family homes sold in HAR MLS area 15, location 107. Of those, 257 single … (4 comments)
