"Thanksgiving is a day.  ThanksLiving is a lifestyle."
We all had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Debbie Reynolds 12 Days of Thanks Giving Challenge and it's been a fun exercise.  When you consciously think about all the things in your life to be thankful for, it is truly a never ending and joyful task.
As we wrap up the official Thanksgiving weekend, it is an excellent opportunity to commit yourself to turning the consciousness of being thankful into an everyday event.
Will you accept the challenge of making ThanksGiving a year around lifestyle and not just a day?

thanks giving: 12 Days of Thanksgiving 2017: Round-up - 11/23/17 06:02 AM

"The real gift of gratitude is the more grateful you are, the more present you become."
-Robert Holden
For the last 12 Days
Debbie Reynolds challenged us to write a post expressing our thanks for the various people and things in our lives.  It's been a fun challenge and here is a round-up of my 12 posts:
Day 1:  I've never had bullets fly by my head, but I've experienced freedom because of the men and women who did.  I am forever grateful for every veteran's sacrifice."
Day 2:  "If I did anything right in my life it was when I gave my … (15 comments)

"Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot."
-Unknown
There are many versions of the history of Thanksgiving in the United States.  They are all based on fact with a few variants.
Here is a link to an interesting 2:38 video about the first 3-day feast and celebration which has evolved into present day Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving, as we know it, is a time to reflect on and express our gratitude for the people in our lives and the many blessings that we enjoy every day.   We've all been encouraged to reflect on some of those blessing through Debbie Reynold's … (18 comments)

"The car we drive says a lot about us.  The way we drive says even more."
-Carol Williams

In the final day of Debbie Reynold's 12 Days of Thanks Giving Challenge, I'm going to be thankful for my automobile.  My car is my ticket to the world.  With no notice, it is ready, willing and able to take me wherever I want to (or need to) go.  We have seen a lot together.

I have owned a lot of vehicles in my life.  This car is definitely the most versatile one I've ever had and I love it.  It is a 2008 Ford … (5 comments)

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."
- Edgar Degas
Today is a little out of the ordinary. I want to express my thanks for artists and particularly the artist of my little gourd collection.
I only have three painted gourds but they are absolutely precious.  They are so special because the grandmother of a friend of mine painted these gourds.  What makes them so remarkable is the painter is 93 years old and very close to being blind due to macular degeneration.
The detail on these gourds is absolutely amazing.  Her favorite subject, as depicted on these … (8 comments)

"The love in our family flows strong and deep, leaving us memories to treasure and keep."
As I think about all the things I am thankful for, the people in my life are always at the forefront.  One of the people I am so thankful for is my cousin, Shirley.  Shirley is a first cousin on my Mom's side of the family. For reasons too complicated to explain, when my Dad died we pretty much lost touch with my Mom's side of the family.  My Dad's side of the family took my brother and me in and raised us and the Mom … (9 comments)

"Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master."
- Christian Lous Lange

Today I want to give thanks for technology. Oh, how different life was before the laptop computers, tablets, and cell phones.

Then:
I remember being in business before any of today's "must-have" technology.  Do you old timers remember getting stacks of paper with the new listings and you had to put them in a binder and remove the expireds and solds?
My first computer purchase was in 1985 and it came with a grand total of 20 megabytes of hard drive memory.  It ran my entire business with room to … (21 comments)

"When I was young I was scared of the dark.  Now when I see my electricity bill I'm scared of the light."
-Unknown
Unlike the unknown author from the quote above, today I am thankful for my power bill.  It may seem odd to be thankful for a bill.  However, every time I receive my electricity usage bill, I am reminded how blessed we are here in Central Washington State.  We enjoy the least expensive power in the nation.
How do our electrical rates stay so much lower than most of the rest of the country?  The Mighty Columbia River flows down from Canada … (17 comments)
