real estate instructor: One Thing I Know - 08/26/17 12:38 PM
At my age, you tend to know lots of stuff.  Some of the stuff you know is of great value and some of it has little value or use to anyone.  One thing I know, however, is how to make money as a real estate practitioner.  There’s an old saying, “Those who can’t, teach.”  There’s a lot of truth to that adage, but in my case, it’s a bit different.  I no longer practice real estate because I do not have the energy or the physical capacity to do what must be done.  One thing I know is how to make … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: It’s the Little Things - 08/03/17 10:58 AM
One of our grandsons is visiting from Maine and his time here has been wonderful for me.  I don’t normally get to have grandchildren visit because they all live far away.  Having our 10-year old grandson has been educational, comforting and joyous and I am continually reminded that it’s the little things in life that are the most important.  Having a 10-year old caress my face or hug me and tell me he loves me is at times overwhelming.  I really like having him here.

It’s the little things that count in a solid real estate career as well.  I remember clients … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: It’s a New Day - 07/27/17 06:11 AM
Ever wake up knowing it’s a new day and you are so glad yesterday is gone?  We’ve all heard the adages, for example, tomorrow’s another day, joy comes in the morning, there’s a new day coming.  How would these sayings relate to a real estate career?  We all have bad days that we’re glad to see come and go, but a bad day for a real estate agent can be monumentally destructive.

There are times things appear to be going well.  That closing date is getting closer and you can finally take that vacation or pay those bills.  Two days before closing … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Inspiration - 06/27/17 06:43 AM
In life, we have many inspirations, and some are relegated to our personal lives and some are relegated to our professional lives.  When blogging, I usually try to keep my personal life experiences to a minimum because after all, this is a real estate school blog.  When thinking about inspiration from a professional point of view, it’s easy to figure out what inspires me, and I would love to share that with you!

Having entered the real estate industry as a single mother of two small girls, no child support, 32 years old and living in a city where I knew only … (0 comments)

real estate instructor: When All Else Fails - 06/01/17 05:53 AM
Every part of the U.S. is experiencing an influx of real estate agents and REALTORS®.
The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials, ARELLO, estimated there were over 2,000,000 real estate licensees in the U.S. during 2015, and that number has had to have grown with the successful market we’ve experienced.  There are some fascinating statistics offered by NAR that show the practice of real estate is growing throughout the country.

With all this growth, why then do we see real estate agents failing?  According to REALTOR® Magazine, there are four main reasons why agents do not succeed.  Without going into … (0 comments)

real estate instructor: Try - 05/31/17 01:22 PM
As an instructor, one of my pet peeves is to hear a student say he/she would like to “try” real estate.  I’m reminded of something my instructor told me that has resonated to me over the years.  He said he could not recall a doctor, lawyer or accountant tell him they were trying their chosen vocation.  So many of us seem to forget the practice of real estate is a career, not a job to try out until something better comes along.

Statistics show many real estate agents drop out their first year of practice.  I’ve pondered that dilemma more than once, … (3 comments)

real estate instructor: Facing Challenges - 04/22/17 05:39 AM
For TEAM Hughes Real Estate School, April was a month of rollercoaster emotions.  We were facing challenges at every turn.  It was our first month in a new Pensacola campus, and anything and everything that could go wrong literally did!  We started out with using a secondary classroom that could fit 9 students comfortably, and we had 11.  Needless to say, we were happy to move into our new classroom on Tuesday.

This was a month where students came into the class and our registration procedures experienced a glitch.  It forced us to overnight a book to a student who managed to … (0 comments)

real estate instructor: It’s a Time of Renewal - 04/16/17 04:14 AM
Spring, Easter and warmer weather make folks feel good.  For most, it’s a time of renewal.  Whether you are a person of faith or not, leaving winter behind normally makes us feel more alive, ready to pursue the things we’ve put off.

As a woman of faith, it’s a time of renewal in my personal life.  As a real estate instructor, it’s a time of renewal in my profession.  As a real estate agent, it may be a time of renewal for you as well.  When I practiced real estate, my career cycles were quarterly, and each quarter brought a renewed commitment … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Blogging Through Life - 04/09/17 06:15 AM
Technology has made the world smaller, and it’s easier to reach out to people.  Sometimes, I feel as though I am blogging my way through life, however.  The practice of real estate has always been a people business, and without meeting people, it’s difficult to become successful.  Owning a real estate school is a different animal altogether.

My contact with people is not daily, and TEAM Hughes Real Estate School depends heavily on its website to attract prospective students.  Blogging is necessary to help boost the SEOs so that people can find us, and there are days when I feel I am … (2 comments)

real estate instructor: New Instructors, New Campuses - 03/03/17 01:19 PM
TEAM Hughes Real Estate School has been growing regularly since its inception in 2015.  We recently added new instructors, new campuses and new student activities.  We are humbled by this growth, and believe me, it has caused a great many growing pains.  We have had instructors come in and go out.  Teaching real estate classes is not for everyone, and unfortunately, it takes the long, arduous process of getting a license and teaching a class to find out that some of our instructors just weren’t cut out to teach real estate courses.

With new instructors, new campuses and new class activities there … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: I Love Franchises - 03/01/17 05:33 AM
In the real estate world, franchises play a huge part.  I love franchises.  I began my career with Century 21 and ultimately owned a Century 21 franchise years ago.  I’ve worked with ReMax, Prudential and a rather large independent company.  My last gig, before starting TEAM Hughes Real Estate School, was as a Productivity Coach with Keller Williams.  TEAM Hughes has campuses at Keller Williams offices, as well as an ERA company.  So, as you can see, I love franchises because franchises have a place in the real estate industry.

As Director of Recruiting and Training for a large independent firm in … (4 comments)

real estate instructor: Things Get Crazy from Time to Time - 01/26/17 05:48 PM
As a real estate career is busy, so is the life of a real estate instructor, especially one who owns a real estate school.  Things get crazy from time to time because we just cannot keep up with all the people involved in our business.  For you, it’s buyers and sellers.  For us, it’s prospective students.  Our prospects are those who want a license, those who have a new license, and those who want a broker’s license.

Things get crazy from time to time, and one of the times is at the end of the month.  We run our classes the third … (3 comments)

real estate instructor: Let Us Help You Soar - 01/25/17 01:07 PM
I read a motto the other day, “The higher we lift our people, the higher our company will soar.”  That got me to thinking about TEAM Hughes Real Estate School and why we are becoming so popular among consumers who have made the decision to pursue a practice in real estate.  TEAM Hughes tends to lift our students to as a high a level as they can reach in the early days of their real estate career.  We mentally take each student by the shoulders, look them in the eye, and say, “Let us help you soar!”

So many real estate schools … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Becoming a Good Instructor - 01/06/17 04:17 AM
TEAM Hughes Real Estate School has had growing pains this past year and they aren’t about to miraculously stop.  One of the stiffest challenges we’ve faced is finding instructors that we are willing to trust our business to.  Becoming a good instructor is no easy feat, regardless of how the instructor may view it.

During 2016 we hired a young man with the hopes he was becoming a good instructor.  We gave him every tool we possibly could and met monthly to help hone his skills.  Age has nothing to do with becoming a good instructor, nor does experience or a lack … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Moving Into the New Year - 12/18/16 04:07 AM
We at TEAM Hughes Real Estate School hope you had the most wonderful Christmas ever!  Now, we are moving into the new year with great expectations.  This week may find people still celebrating or recuperating from celebrating.  We were in Illinois for the holiday and hated to leave so quickly, but this week is a banner week for us!

Although our classes are done for the year, TEAM Hughes is moving into the new year in style!  We are announcing another campus opening, and are thrilled about it.  If you are in Crestview, Navarre, Destin, Niceville, Ft. Walton Beach, Shalimar, Niceville or … (3 comments)

real estate instructor: Imitation Should Flatter Us! - 04/24/16 07:46 AM
Imitation should flatter us because it shows we are doing something right.  The other day I was surfing around the internet and, as most humans do, I checked out our competition.  It was exciting to see one of our competitors has decided to try his hand at offering a one-week real estate class.  He even varied  spelling to call his class the same thing we do.  The problem, however, is that he is not TEAM Hughes Real Estate School.

As I see it, when you do something right, people will attempt to imitate it, and that imitation should flatter us, … (2 comments)

real estate instructor: Our December Class is Coming to an End - 12/02/15 10:42 PM
Our December fast-track class is quickly coming to an end. This was the last class of 2015, and they’re absorbing more information than they ever thought possible! It’s been a great week, and I am confident our high pass rate will not be in jeopardy. I believe each and every one of our students will pass their final exam on Sunday.

This December class that is coming to an end was also the last class to receive the 38th edition of the book we use, “Real Estate Principles and Practices.” The 39th edition will be used as of January 1st, and contains … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Thankful For Your Career - 11/20/15 09:39 PM
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  TEAM Hughes is thankful for so many things.  I hope you, like us, are thankful for your career.  We are one of the few industries that offer unlimited success to each and every member, whether you have a graduate degree or whether you are a high school dropout.

Be thankful for your career because you are limited only by yourself.  Even when the market is not in the best condition, if you are one who has positioned yourself with a good listing inventory, you will sustain the rough ride.  At the very peak of our financial woes after the … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: A Week Investment in Your Career - 11/20/15 08:32 PM
TEAM Hughes Real Estate School offers something that no other real estate school in the area offers.  Our One-Week Fast Track real estate course is highly unique because a course that takes some schools a month to present is offered in one week.

A week investment in your career doesn’t seem like very much over the long haul, and we hear people sometimes say they’d rather take the month so that they can absorb everything.  It’s been our experience, however, that all students share in one major area.  Whether you take the course at night, during the day, for a month, … (1 comments)

real estate instructor: Truth or Myth - 11/18/15 07:48 AM
As a former seasoned REALTOR®, I’ve seen a lot, I’ve heard a lot, I’ve experienced a lot.  As a real estate instructor, I get to teach a lot, advise a lot, and squelch a lot of myths.  Many consumers have some rather interesting misunderstandings about real estate agents, and then some of those consumers decide to practice real estate, and they end up bringing their myths into the arena.

The difference between a truth and myth can sometimes be perspective.  For example, is it truth or is it myth that real estate agents get kickbacks or referrals from the lenders, the lawyers, … (1 comments)
