consumers: Grandma Being Green... ☺☺☺ - 09/18/12 02:30 AM
Love this!!!

This is a must read. Great story to share.  Grandma Being Green...

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."

The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment or future generations."

She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Holy Guacamole!! November 14 is National Guacamole Day.   So I will splurge with some chips and salsa... Viva the Avocado!! Fun Food For Thought:
Fallbrook, California is the Avocado Capital of the World.  More avocados are grown here than any other place in the U.S.

About 50 million pounds of avocados are consumed in the U.S. on Super Bowl Sunday. According to Eating Well magazine, that is enough to cover an entire football field to a depth of nearly 12 feet.

consumers: New airline rules in favor of the traveler! - 08/25/11 10:44 AM

Finally, a bill of rights for the passengers! The Department of Transportation finalized a set of new regulations that took effect on Tuesday in favor of travelers.  Passengers will be compensated for lost luggage, short delays and/or getting bumped off flights, for up to four times the ticket value. Also, these rules will force airlines to display any and all fees on their websites, and allow passengers to hold and return a ticket within 24 hours without a penalty. In addition, it will limit the amount of time a plane sits on the tarmac.
This is great news for the consumer since ticket prices … (1 comments)

consumers: The Key to Consumer Spending... - 11/05/08 02:32 AM

Two major and well respected educational facilities USC and UCLA teamed up recently to perform a study regarding consumer spending.
The study showed that a rise in home values has a greater effect on consumer spending than any other asset, liquid or hard.
Think about that...even money in the bank, does not have as much impact on consumer spending as when a person believes their home value is increasing.
Now think...how important is our housing market to a turnaround in the overall economy.  Yep...our industry is integral to a successful economy.  And that is where the focus of governmental administration should be.

consumers: Bills Seem High? Blame "Sticky Prices"... - 10/23/08 09:02 AM
Have you ever heard of the term "sticky prices"?
In real estate, we experienced sticky prices when sellers were in denial (not a river in Egypt) about the housing price correction and falling prices.  Eventually, sellers got the message and began to price homes competitively.
Well, now the same "sticky price" phenomenon continues in other areas or the economy.  Like when companies raise prices or add a surcharge on products and keep those prices higher even when there is no longer a reason...like soaring oil prices.
Let's take a look at pricing.  Consumer prices are set by companies.  Commodity prices are … (1 comments)

consumers: Consumer Borrowing Increases... - 03/27/08 07:06 AM
While consumer spending has backed down consumer borrowing is apparently increasing.
According to a Federal Reserve report, consumer credit rose at the annual rate 3.3 percent in January of this year.  That figure was up from 1.8 percent growth in December of last year.
This doesn't seem to surprise economists as the January numbers pushed up total consumer debt by $6.9 billion to $2.52 trillion and it fell right in line with their predictions.
It seems consumers are relying on their credit cards a little more to finance their purchases.
Please email your thoughts about leaning too hard on credit cards at this time....
