driving: Caruso's Green Tip of the Day! - 03/22/11 06:25 AM

With the school year almost coming to a close and summer right around the corner, parents look ahead to plenty of hot summer days out on the road with the kids in the car. Just how hot those days can be may not hit you until you open the door of a car that's been baking for hours in a parking lot. The fun really starts when the little ones have to get in. Here is where your new solar powered car gadget comes into play.
In these fuel-conscious times, when consumers may think twice before cranking the AC, one … (1 comments)

driving: Get more MPG without a hybrid! - 01/24/11 07:49 AM
Even if you don't drive a "green" car, you can still drive greener -- and save $$$ and MPG.
 •    Park in the Shade: Park in the shade when you can, and cool down your hot car by driving with the windows down before turning on the air-conditioner. Over time these practices can result in a much smaller workload for your AC-and significant energy savings.
 •    Get Regular Tune-ups: Change your oil, check the fluids, replace spark plugs, and perform other regular maintenance tasks to save fuel. Rotate your tires and keep them properly inflated. For every 3 pounds they fall … (3 comments)

driving: Cell Phone Etiquette with Caruso! - 12/11/10 08:08 AM

Cell Phones- probably one of your most important assets to your life and your business. But what was once a communication device for urgent phone calls or emergencies, the cell phone has now become an extension of the hand for many; holding it while walking, holding it while talking to someone and or reaching into the pocket or purse at very regular intervals to look at it to check for text messages, email or viewing updates on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
Many real estate agents just cannot keep their hand off it! It has become a habit, always reaching for and … (6 comments)

driving: The Prius may be next... - 02/08/10 03:34 PM
According to reports Toyota is set to announce Prius recalls, this time for brake software problems for the 2010 models.
Chances are your neighbor, someone in your family, or a friend drives a Toyota. They have done a good job at fixing this issue but I just want everyone to be aware if they do indeed drive one of these at-risk cars.
But remember, it's not just the car we need to worry about! Drive safely, buckle up, and stay off your cell phone to make the roads safer for everyone!

driving: Hello...it's me again - Southern California - 01/18/10 01:05 PM

Hi...remember me? I'm the Great State of California and you always hear about me on the news.
Forget the fact that I'm broke, you usually hear me referred to along the lines of severe drought, wildfires, heavy rain and then mudslides / landslides, if we ever get our winter rains.
Guess what?  We have our multi-year drought, we had our fires this past autumn and now it's winter...so here it comes!  You'll read and hear about us again - because a series of winter rain storms is arriving and we'll have those mudslides and landslides.
Please keep us in your most … (12 comments)

driving: Driving tips in wet weather - 12/07/09 04:14 PM

California needed rain and we got plenty today. Fortunately, its in the forecast for a few more days this week. But while you are making your daily commute, please remember to drive safely in the wet weather.
-Slow down, it takes longer to stop in wet weather
-Increase your distance behind cars in front of you
-Turn your headlights on
-Try to stay in the middle lanes, water tends to pool in the outer ones

driving: Must See Texting and Driving PSA - 08/25/09 06:51 AM
A new Public Service Announcement about texting while driving is causing some stir. The PSA, with over 1 million YouTube hits, graphically warns teens about the dangers of texting while driving.
A recent Virginia Tech study found that drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in a collision if texting.
The video shows 2 teen girls driving, giggling, and texting. The driver smashes into another car and after a couple seconds a third car slams into the passenger side. The driver sees her friend dead next to her and become hysterical. It is emotional, bloody and violent, but has the potential … (2 comments)

driving: The Bigger the Car...the Better the Deal... - 08/31/08 05:01 PM
Well, it's time for auto manufacurers to clear the floor of 2008 models and get ready 2009 models.  The sales of SUV's are off 11% or more this year.  So, you can look for big discounts or 0 percent financing for pretty much the remainder of the year or the end of the 2008 models, whichever comes first.
As gas prices went up everyone switched to smaller and smaller cars, despite the factor of safety while driving.
That means the SUV's can be had for a great price and you can have some metal around you for protection while you are … (1 comments)

driving: No Phones to Ears While Driving...is Texting Better? - 08/31/08 12:31 PM
OK, California law took effect on July 1st of this year that you can't drive while having a phone to your ear.
Can you have an ear piece? - yes.  Can you rig your phone thru your car audio system? - yes
Can you text message while you drive?  Yes yes yes...
Come on, texting and driving just don't mix and it is waaayyyy more dangerous that talking on the phone.
Please send in your comments on this one.

driving: Americans Drove 30 Billion LESS Miles During 1st Half of '08 - 08/04/08 04:35 AM
The good, the bad and the ugly...
Remember that old film?  Well this time it's not a movie.  The good is: Americans are showing their displeasure with the price of fuel costs and driving less...a lot less!  We drove 30 billion miles less in the first half of '08.
The bad is: A good amount of tax on gasoline goes toward repair and or maintenance of roads and bridges.  They want us consuming fuel.
The ugly is: We can fall behind substantially on the condition of our roads and bridges if fuel consumption continues to fall.
I have an idea...let's see how … (2 comments)

driving: When is it Time to take Away Grandma or Grandpa's Car Keys? - 07/30/08 05:15 PM
OK...let me assure you all that this has nothing to do with gas prices.
I love my Dad and he is 85, pretty sharp and going strong.  He passed his last driving and vision related test from the state.  He drives himself to all his doctor visits (plenty of them) for this or that but it's all a part of general aging.
But every now and then I look at his car and there is a scratch or a ding and I ask..."how did that happen, dad?"  He has no answer.  Well, I begin to wonder about the cars he parks … (5 comments)
