real estate: Jobs and Unemployment Update with Caruso! - 07/29/10 06:43 AM

It's A Fact: Nearly 1 out of 10 able bodied adults among us is unemployed. The administration is telling us to expect a near 10% unemployment into the extended future (California over 12.5%). To date, over $787B has been spent as "stimulus" intended to create or "save" jobs, and Washington is asking for more.
Much of the stimulus is directed to public works that at best create only temporary jobs or more bureaucracy that produces no income, goods nor marketable services. Many of these "created" jobs will require more tax revenues to sustain. This is where taxes are eaten up.

real estate: Caruso's Global Conservation Act - 07/20/10 06:33 AM

Global Conservation Act
Recently I've been told to keep an eye on the Global Conservation Act of 2010. It was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in March, and in June it was introduced to the Senate by Senators Tom Udall and Sam Brownback.
The Global Conservation Act would tap the power of the U.S. government's diplomatic and strategic resources to protect the environment and address an array of global environmental issues, including the destruction of forests and reefs. It would also establish a special coordinator, a presidential advisory committee, and an inter-agency working group on global conservation. … (0 comments)

Morphosis Architects Floating Houses
Recently I have read that floating houses are getting more attention these days, moving from the whimsical and conceptual to more practical considerations. Brad Pitt's "Make It Right Foundation" which has been working to rebuild hurricane-torn New Orleans through innovative green design has teamed up with Morphosis Architects to unveil a home that floats when flooded.
So, if floodwaters rise, the house floats, gliding up 12-foot guideposts. It easily breaks away from electric lines and plumbing and has batteries to power up appliances and devices inside for up to three days. It is also made with … (6 comments)

The real estate profession changes every day, but the qualities you find in top-performing practitioners do not. The details may shift as technology rolls forward, yet the underlying skills are always the same. Here are some suggestions to help you be successful in any market.
~Meeting New People
The simple fact is that if you never meet anyone new, you will never have anyone new to sell to. Whether you encounter them for the first time in person, online, or over the phone doesn't matter. Get one-on-one with them in a conversation about their needs, and you've at least … (3 comments)

real estate: Caruso's Home Star Energy Retrofit Act 2010 - 06/01/10 09:07 AM

A bill, known casually as Cash for Caulkers, passed the House last month and now awaits Senate consideration. The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010 would provide rebates to homeowners who improve their homes' energy efficiency with things like better insulation, efficient heating systems and energy-saving windows and doors. "The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act is a common sense bill that will create jobs, save consumers money, and strengthen our economy,"  according to President Obama.  The bill has two parts, the Silver Star and the Gold Star, and would authorize $5.7 billion for the program over two years. Under … (5 comments)

real estate: So, you signed up for Twitter....Now What?? - 05/26/10 07:36 AM

So you just signed up for Twitter. But now what do you do? Heres some tips on how to find people to connect with and tweet with.
There are several tools out there for searching Twitter, including Twitter's homepage itself, but I seem to have had the best success with four simple tools:
1- Twitter Local: this Adobe Air application runs tweets in real time based on the criteria you supply. You can follow area codes and when someone new shows up in the stream you follow them and say hello.
2- Local hashtag:  Every area has at least … (2 comments)

Finding a new home can be difficult. Finding someone to help you find the right home for you can be a difficult decision as well. So how do you know which agent to use? The choice can be hard, but here are some important questions to ask or just consider while choosing your potential agent.
1. Do they have references from past clients? Ask their past clients if they were pleased with the service the agent provided them. Did they communicate in a timely manner, and were they kind and courteous?
2. What does being an agent mean to them? By asking this … (3 comments)
