In honor of their first anniversary in their new location and to celebrate with the community, Dorcas Ministries will host the Cary Plaza Carnival.  Proceeds will benefit the Dorcas Ministries.
There will be rides for children, teens and adults; games, and food. Special entertainment is scheduled for Friday night and Saturday of the carnival.  Included in the entertainment for Friday night will be a performance by the Cary YMCA SuperSkippers. I love the transition between seasons in Cary. The world-famous Sarah P. Duke Gardens are not far away, but even in my own neighborhood, vibrant pink, white, and yellow flowers bloom overnight, and the first thunderstorms of spring arrive just behind them. Meanwhile, the staccato sound of woodpeckers hammering at trees accompanies early morning dog walkers. Bright red cardinals flit from one branch to the next, while wild rabbits hop across suburban lawns. Spring also brings Mardi Gras (today!), and "March Madness," which is a very big deal in the Tar Heel state.

cary: Books, bookstores, and departures - 03/08/11 04:24 AM

The Borders bookstore in Cary, North Carolina is one of those scheduled to close because its parent company declared bankruptcy. I'm going to miss that place. It had long served as the unofficial king of a sunken parking lot next to Buck Jones Road, across from one of Cary's busier freeway onramps. (that's my California showing -- they don't call them "freeways" in the South). Like other stores of its kind, this Borders location welcomed browsers, chess players, laptop computer users, and anyone who wanted gourmet coffee to sip on while hunting down the latest fiction.
