catherine cornelia real estate: Getting Back on the Blogging Train - 07/25/13 10:28 PM
The Blogging Train

This summer is one of the most extreme temperature summers I can remember. We had a 30 degree drop yesterday and it felt "cold." Today is predicted to go back up 25-30 degrees. All this change reminded me I got distracted from my blog.

Does this happen to you? There really is only one solution; put it on your calendar as an appointment. Include the topic you will write about and actively be aware of this, always looking for material that can be used in your upcoming post. Be conscious of photo opportunities. A photo you … (3 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Seasons of Change - 03/10/13 07:42 AM
Seasons of Change

This week feels like the seasons are changing. We let go of summer; flip-flops, t-shirts, skirts and shorts. Let's go outdoor activities like sailing and swimming. We switched to soccer and football. We reorganize our closets making room for fall winter clothes.

All this begs the question: Should you move during the fall and winter? If you're selling, it may be the best time. You're not competing with as many properties. The winter buyer is a serious buyer. The same can be said of the winter seller. You're serious about making a move.

catherine cornelia real estate: Three Things I Wish My Website Would Do - 02/25/13 03:28 AM
Three Things I Wish My Website Would Do

Thank you Websitebox for this contest. The top three things I wish my website would do:

Have a live Twitter feed that continually updates. I would like the ability to access my Twitter account from the website; posting updates, re-tweets, etc.
A “Hot Sheet” feature that continually updates, like the MLS system offers. I could select the criteria for the updates and it would happen automatically and at least update every 15 minutes with a date and timestamp. Customers and clients can check in to automatically see what’s new.
This may … (5 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: SELLING CURB APPEAL - 01/12/13 10:50 PM

Curb appeal is very important if you are selling your home. Your yard is the first thing that a home buyer will see when driving by.  It is a fact that many home buyers search the web for homes that are for sell. They get the addresses and drive by to take a look at the home and neighborhood. The yard must want to make a potential home buyer to want to look inside your home.
I suggest you stand in the middle of the street in front of your yard and take a picture. Now at this point … (2 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Where Do You Get Your Information? - 01/06/13 11:37 PM
Where Do You Get Your Information?

I find it interesting that Facebook is such a huge source of information, information on all subjects. Now there is a 'vibrant' page for Realtors® and Facebook is trying to keep us engaged on their site.
I thought long about this over the weekend. Social media, social networking, social marketing, all things 'social' but are we getting lost in cyber space? How are we engaging with others? Is there a time a place for one-on-one personal interaction? What creates trends; or is the question who?

Yes, a lot of questions presented. I am … (3 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: iPhone and iPad - Managing Your Apps - 12/22/12 02:43 AM
iPhone and iPad
Managing Your Apps

This post poses a question: how do you manage your apps on your iPhone and iPad? Do you use the same ones on both devices? Do you reserve some specifically written for the larger screen of the iPad and don’t try and use your iPhone even if they will work on both?

Here is some background:

My first iPhone was a 3G. MobileMe integration and syncing between all devices made sense. Traditionally I have skipped an upgrade that didn't bring additional functionality with it. I now have two iPhones. When the iPhone … (2 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Listing Pictures When It Is Raining - What To Do - 12/07/12 06:37 AM
Listing Pictures When It Is Raining - What To Do

I spent another rainy day working on my photography and the thought occured to me, "What do you do when you get the listing and need the photographs to post online?"

Instead of trying to take the front of the house, stage something that protrays the

mood of the neighborhood. This is a great shot for a beach home. You can also take a picture of the front door. Turn on the outside light and light the interior hallway if the door has a window or … (6 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Marvelous Monday, December 3, 2012 - 12/03/12 10:30 AM
Marvelous Monday!

This will be a quick photo comparison post. It shows two pictures taken from two different perspectives. It is a table setting, not a house, but the concept is clearly demonstrated. It's all about angles and distance from your subject.
In September, I was in Miami working on the sale of my father-in-laws house. After a very long, hot, rainy day, I finally got to dinner around 8:30pm. I was dining alone at a very eclectic cafe, The Peacock Garden Cafe, next to my hotel in Coconut Grove. By the way, if you are in the area, this … (4 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Serious Sunday - 12/2/12 - 12/02/12 05:53 AM
Serious Sunday
Sometimes It All Just Clicks

Sometimes the picture we take isn’t quite right. For a long time now I have wanted to become proficient with Aperture and the wonderful features it has available for enhancing, fixing or simply making the picture better.

I titled this post “Serious Sunday” because I had one of those “Ah Ha” moments on the clone feature in Aperture and decided it was time to get “serious” about learning this program.

I am working on removing the polish residue from this picture. It is taking me

catherine cornelia real estate: Fabulous Friday - Announcement Day! - 11/30/12 08:56 AM
Fabulous Friday

Fabulous Friday; November 30; Announcement Day!

I am ready to announce the new direction Catherine Cornelia Real Estate will take - I am going to specialize in real estate photography. For those agents that want to “take their own pictures” I am offering classes. They will be affordable, hands on, real world scenarios. I offer live, onsite consulting. I believe we need to have better pictures of our listings. There is a way to portray the interior of a property that is in the process of being prepared for sale, another offering. If it involves real estate … (4 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: "The Street Where You Live" featuring Whitehall Road, Eastchester, NY - 11/26/12 04:29 AM

Interlaken Gardens Whitehall Road, Eastchester, NY
Here is the first post in the series The Street Where You Live. I am starting with the streets in Interlaken Gardens, a beautiful garden style cooperative apartment complex located in Eastchester, NY just 30 minutes from Grand Central Station.  Whitehall Road is a dead end off California Road. Easy to find, it is the first street on the right coming in from White Plains Post Road or the last street on the left coming in from California Road. Most of the buildings on this street are only two stories. A unique feature … (0 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Black Friday a.k.a. The Day I Decided My Future - 11/22/12 10:39 PM
The Day I Decided My Future

Something magical has happened this month. I have been blogging daily here on ActiveRain because of a 30 in 30 Challenge. I admit that I missed my post on Thanksgiving Day, which I posted today in the hopes that it will still count. I have become hooked on blogging again.

The best things about this platform: I am required to write original content. This forces me to think, to plan and to write from my experience. In previous posts I have mentioned my struggle with real estate in today’s market. And here is … (9 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: It's Only Tuesday - 11/20/12 08:40 AM
It's only Tuesday and I feel like the week should be over. I guess I wish it was.
We've all had them but I have never had one fall around a holiday. This makes me more sensitive to the scenario. I was going to make this a Members Only post but I think buyers and sellers can learn something too.
I went to Florida in mid-September to help sell my father-in-laws house in Pinecrest, FL; a suburb of Miami. I did everything right and got the house under contract with a backup in 12 days.
The house was suppose to close on … (4 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Blogging With Pictures from First Generation iPad - 11/16/12 04:47 AM
Need a camera - no.
Need iOS 6 - yes.
Herein lies the rub because the first generation iPad will not run iOS 6. There are solutions and I found the easiest is Google Docs.
I love color - text color and size changes  - everything is a choice. Using Google Docs to write my blog post gives me thisoption. Once written, I can open this document on my iPad, copy and then paste into ActiveRain.
The fonts and colors used stick and then I can continue to write my post. Adding pictures is the same - I add the picture … (0 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Creating a Blog for ActiveRain Using Google Docs - 11/14/12 05:59 AM
Creating A Blog for ActiveRain
Using Google Docs

Why write this post? I want to be more creative in the look of my blogs that I write on ActiveRain. While searching for a way to add pictures when writing a post from my iPad, I came across a help topic using HTML code. It seems, according to the topic, I can use Google Docs, format my text here and when I copy and paste it into ActiveRain, it will look as it does here (here being Google Docs).

Here goes!
It works, hurray!!! Now, for a final test, … (2 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: Post for Today - Best Practices - The Best of all is Listening - 11/13/12 12:07 AM
In the scheme of Best Practices, there is one thing that stands above all else - listening. Take a lesson from this doe. Her ears are so large that she can't help but listen and this is her survival mechanism.

I got back into the practice of effective listening, a skill that I was taught when working for Xerox. This best practice has always served me well but it takes extreme discipline to implement in my business. At the end of the day it is so worthwhile. When I listen to my client I hear what they are telling me and … (3 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: The Street Where You Live - A Series Whose Time is Come - 11/09/12 08:46 AM
‘The Street Where You Live’ is a favorite song of mine from the musical My Fair Lady. I decided now will be a great time to write a blog series with ‘The Street Where You Live’ as the central theme.

To give you a flavor of what is to come, the streets are all located in Eastchester, NY with homes, town houses and cooperative apartments built around Lake Innisfree; also known as Lake Isle. The detached homes are in Lake Isle Estates and many are located directly on Lake Innisfree or the golf course at Lake Isle Country Club. The … (2 comments)

catherine cornelia real estate: The Day After - Can I Make a Difference? - 11/06/12 10:48 PM
The Day After? The Day After the election and I ask myself, "Can I make a difference?"
There is much chatter still going on about the election. We are divided and I believe that would be the case no matter the outcome. I have a choice here; I can join in the discussions and argue with my opposing side or I can look at ways I can make a difference.
I am looking at ways I can make a difference. I am starting in my own backyard, which is easy as I live in New York. There are many families in … (5 comments)
