My first year as a mortgage broker was quite an experience from going to beautiful restaurants for lunch with CPAs to meeting with developers to 3 hurricanes within 6 weeks. What a year! Many people have asked me over the years about what college I went to in becoming a mortgage broker or as a wholesale account executive. My answer is always the same. I learned on the job as a processor and I made $12,536 in my first year on my W-2 before taxes. I found it very tough living on such a small wage, but I wouldn't trade that year for anything because that was were I learned the business. I actually fell in love with it. I started in the mortgage industry in June 2003 working for a CPA who also happened to do loans. I was a processor and knew absolutely nothing about mortgages or who Fannie was or what an ARM loan was and how it worked. My very first day my boss came in and told me to put the files in the office in state compliance format. There was 300 files and I didnt have a clue.
