Many homeowners in today's economy are finding themselves struggling to make their mortgage payments and are facing a possible foreclosure.  If you're one of these homeowners, there may still be time to thwart the foreclosure process.  Here are a few alternatives to Reno foreclosure that you may want to consider:
Short Sale - A short sale happens when the borrower and lender agree to sell a home for less than the amount owed on the loan.  Despite its name, a short sale can last for several months.  The lender has final approval on what the home will be sold for.

Organize Your PaperworkAre you one of those people that keep their receipts and other tax papers in a shoebox?  Make this the year you get more organized.  You can purchase an accordion file or small, plastic portable file tote at any office supplies store.  Make sure to label each section/folder with different categories (such as medical expenses, donations, etc).  You can keep track of the bills you pay here as well.  This is especially great … (2 comments)

reno foreclosures: Having Trouble Selling Your Home? - 10/25/10 11:16 AM
Are you trying to sell your Reno home but not having any luck?  The reasons may be different than what you think.  Here are a few reasons you are having trouble selling your home:
Bigger Isn't Necessarily Better - Just because a brokerage is large, doesn't mean it is the best.  When you call into a large brokerage firm, you typically get referred over to the first person available, not necessarily the best person available.  Ask around to people you know who have recently sold, bought or are in the process of buying or selling a home to see who they are using.  Then … (3 comments)

reno foreclosures: Some Ways to Avoid Foreclosure - 09/27/10 06:18 AM
Since foreclosures rose 4% in August 2010, it would appear that plenty of people are still struggling to pay their mortgages.  If you find yourself in similar circumstances, here are some ways to avoid foreclosure:
Avoidance is NOT the best policy - If your lender calls you, answer it.  If they leave a message, call them back.  If you receive a letter from your mortgage company, reply.  It's best to face your problems head on rather than running and hiding.  Mortgage companies are more apt to work with you if you are honest and upfront with them than if you ignore … (1 comments)

According to the latest report from RealtyTrac, the rate of distressed properties for Reno-Sparks and Wahsoe County went up sharply in January and February.  In January, the Reno-Sparks metro area and Washoe County entered the top ten and, in February, they moved to the eighth position for metro areas with the highest foreclosure filing rate.  Clark County is in the first position.  There are three components to the ranking: an increase in Notice Of Defaults, an increase in Notice of Trustee Sale and the number of foreclosed homes on the market. In response to this increase, Washoe County has posted a Foreclosure Prevention Seminar … (0 comments)
