bent tree homes: Land Marks, Photo, or What do Times Square and a Chicken have in common? - 06/23/09 10:01 AM
I was born and raised in the city of New York . I am used to landmarks . Things like the Statue of Liberty the Empire State Building, Times Square, etc etc where things I grew up with. So as i traveled and got older I was used to landmarks as a part of directions.
When we moved to North Georgia I was in for a surprise. I was going some where ,this is pre google maps, and asked for directions as I was new to the area. The person on the other end of the phone said . " Sure … (10 comments)

bent tree homes: Market mobility - 06/19/09 01:33 AM
One of the driving forces behind our housing market is market /people mobility. In some markets this is a greater factor than in others. People move. Jobs move. People are relocated. People sell to retire.
A factor in this market that has a drag is the immobility that exists today. People can't sell so they can't move. Companies are laying off and closing and not relocating folks. If they do relocate you they are saying here is your new job location. The home buy out days are going the ay of the company car.
So in this market we must change … (8 comments)

You can be minutes from the great shops and Aquarium in Chattanooga or really close to many Mountain Destinations

bent tree homes: Tonight's the Night! ( Maybe - 06/06/09 04:41 AM
There are so many jokes out there with that punch line. For us at All Mountain Realty tonight is the night. Tonight we learn if we have won a GABBY award for the Mountain Real Estate Report. We never thought we would get submitted. Then we never thought we would get nominated. All we know is the Radio station we broadcast on has won awards in the past and has won more than one award this time. So tomorrow we will blog. I feel like I am living an episode of Fraser. Let's hope tonight's the night !

bent tree homes: There should be a law....... - 06/02/09 02:38 AM
Years ago while driving through Florida a stone fell from a bridge and cracked my windshield. It was a scary thing and I was upset about the obvious expense. But then a co-worker from Florida told me about a law that allowed me to make a claim and get reimbursed. I made the claim, filled out the forms, and got a check. I thought gee, This is a state standing behind their commitment to provide safe roads. I was happy.
Now I am writing this post because I have some time on my hands. I have that time on my hands … (8 comments)

bent tree homes: Peek-A-Bear - 05/30/09 02:34 AM
Driving through our neighborhood I noticed a Big Rock on the road. I thought I need to stop and move this before some one comes around a turn and hits it. As I was about to get out of my car my wife stopped me and pointed up into the woods,
I looked up and it was Peek-a Bear!!!! This young Bear was peeking out from behind a tree. He and his sibling were playing rolling rocks down the hill. Perhaps he would have sprung out and said the Bear equivalent of Surprise! At that point I would have had the … (10 comments)

bent tree homes: In the Mountains photo - 05/29/09 05:14 AM
About a week ago I posted photos of the all marble Tate house. There are many scenes in the mountains:
Grizzles country store and many like it are fixtures in our mountains. usually they open about now and carry fresh produce and ice tea. So you may be  headed to Amicoloa Falls , about 2 miles west of Grizzles, and one of the the longest falls East of the Mississippi. You could be headed east to Dahlonega about 10 miles from Grizzles, the site of the first Gold rush in the US in the 1820's. You could be hauling a horse … (3 comments)

bent tree homes: Wordless Wed delayed - 05/27/09 11:50 PM
It has been raining a lot in the South lately. But out of the mist and clouds there are some bright spots. This picture is a fully opened Mountain Laurel in the mist
You can see the mist around this picture. The Laurel stands out almost as if it had a light on it. (It doesn't) Remember growing up and waiting for summer corn or Jersey Beef steak tomatoes, or cherries? This is all pre globalization. Well Mountain Laurel here bloom every year. But every second year they are better. This is the second year

bent tree homes: Upgraded or Outdated. Why? - 05/24/09 05:11 AM
Jim Crawford wrote a blog about agents stretching the truth a bit when it comes to comments about a listing being updated and saying a home is upgraded or outdated. It is an interesting post and a good read. It dovetailed with a conversation I had this morning.
What got me to writing this post was that this morning at breakfast AFTER the visitor, (See my earlier blog The Visitor), we were watching HG TV . My wife asked me is it necessary to do all these upgrades in a home? We as Realtors take for granted the mantra of new … (8 comments)

bent tree homes: Southern Culture Photo - 05/20/09 08:00 AM
In the South there is a love affair with trains. in many country and Blue grass Songs you hear references , and music mimicking trains. Listen to a good version of Orange Blossom Express if you are interested. So what we are seeing now is builders and developers acknowledging the tradition of the train and the South. Below is a new mini Mall. It is done in the tradition of an old train depot. There are many of these now dotting our landscape. They are pleasing to the eye and take into account the environment. This new trend toward the old … (1 comments)

bent tree homes: New ways to Juggle - 05/15/09 06:39 AM
In this market many of the old ways used to sell a home or for that matter to entice a person to buy are not working. In a way the "short sale" is our innovation aimed at keeping people out of foreclosure. The government local and national has cash incentives. There are some other things we are using. You may find some of these ideas helpful and maybe share some of your own.

bent tree homes: Georgia Lake Levels - 05/03/09 11:54 PM
Georgia Lake levels are really going up. I blogged about this a few months ago. At the time we were seeing an increase in the water levels. A lot of rain and conservation has really helped. I think if you are looking to boat and fish or just sit by the water and Veg you will not be disappointed this summer. I have been posting pictures of lakes and will go take some shots of the big ones to post in the near future

bent tree homes: North Georgia Mountain Scenes - 05/02/09 09:20 AM
The scenes below are very different. They do show the difference i the mountain views and settings that are possible. The first scene of lovely fields and green is on Yukon Road near the town of Ellijay. Ellijay is a great mountain destination and famous for its' apple festival. The land is green and even though it is in the mountains there are pretty green valleys where folks farm and grow stuff.  Next picture is of Grandview Lake. In the back ground you can see Sharp top mountain. You see small boat houses along the shore line. What these very different … (4 comments)

bent tree homes: Big Canoe Fire Department , or how to spend a Saturday - 04/25/09 09:34 AM
This Saturday I continued to work on my volunteer fire fighting. Yes I took a day off from Real Estate. When buying in the mountains insurance prices are influenced greatly based on fire coverage. Some communities like Big Canoe have their own fire Department. And while you do pay monthly fees in the end your insurance is down. I am one of the volunteers and spent this Saturday Training. So I could not help including this photo.
What did I learn? NEVER stand in front of a fire hydrant when it is being bled!!!

bent tree homes: Jasper Georgia Real Estate - 04/09/09 12:31 AM
I was searching for information and came across some interesting statistics about our market. Over the last 8 years housing prices are up. Over the last 2 years they are relatively flat. In terms of numbers of sales this is where we see the greatest swing. As numbers of units sold over the last 2 years are down.
What this means , and I believe it is true all over the mountains not just in Jasper is that since mountain property is the second most sought after  behind water front, our values are holding. So if you are looking to buy … (3 comments)

bent tree homes: Mountain Real Estate Report - 03/25/09 11:50 PM
The Mountain Real Estate report heard every Thursday on WYYZ radio in Jasper is being Submitted for a GABBY award. Linda Carrig and I are really excited about this. A GABBY is a Georgia Radio award given in many categories for best show in State. The submission is only step one. BUt being recognized for the value we provide as Realtors is very heartening. You can listen to the show on our web site www.allmountainrealty.com or listen live at 1490 AM here in the North Georgia Mountains.
I feel like I am in an episode of Frasier. Wish us luck !!

bent tree homes: Clouds in Big Canoe - 03/24/09 07:20 AM
No matter how tough it gets sometimes looking out my back window and seeing these clouds cheers me up. In a way the clouds are the mountains breathing much in the same way you would see your breath on a cold day. The mountains themselves live and breathe through storms and sunshine. Hope you enjoy the photo.

bent tree homes: Moving South, Macon Cherry Blossom Festival - 03/23/09 12:34 AM
If you do not want to go to Washington DC one of the biggest Cherry blossom festivals in the US is just kicking off in Macon Georgia. The city is Ante-Bellum and just a real gem from the beauty of the Cherry Blossom Festival to the architecture of the homes. It is also amazing what 200 feet in altitude and 130 miles south will do to making spring come early to an area.
We were there visiting friends this week. If you are in the area next weekend will probably be good for the beautiful tress as well. Enjoy
