Please Help the Bmore Kind Pet Food Bank
The Baltimore Humane Society runs the Bmore Kind Pet Food Bank and they need our help.
During these troubling times, many pet owners are struggling to feed both themselves and their pets and some are even having to relinquish their pets.  The Baltimore Humane Society has a food bank for those needing help feeding their best friends.  However, they are running short of food.  Please consider donating either cash or ordering pet food to be delivered directly to the Pet Food Bank, or if you are nearby you could drop some bags of pet food … (2 comments)

baltimore area homes: Happy Leap Day!! - 02/29/20 06:54 AM
Happy Leap Day
For those born on February 29 it might seem that only having a birthday every one in four might not be a bad thing, especially as we get older!!  However, as a child it could make you the butt of many jokes as children can be very cruel.
According to old Irish legend St Brigit struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men only once ever four years on Leap Day.  I thought about this, thinking how romantic but decided against it, I don't like gloves that much!!
In some cultures Leap Day is also known … (4 comments)

Hungry Harvest Good for Your Pocketbook
Hungry Harvest is on a mission to save food from going to waste.  Did you know that 1 in 5 fruits and vegetables goes to waste because it is too small, too big, not the right shape, not the right color, or has blemishes on it?  Hungry Harvest rescues the fruits and vegetables and creates variety boxes that are delivered direct to your door.  Every delivery rescues about 10 pounds of fruits and vegetables from going to waste.
I have been subscribed to Hungry Harvest for over a year.  We get a full harvest box every other … (1 comments)

What an inspiration!!  During the month of March, Baltimore area school kids in fifth grade and younger can visit any of the Enoch Pratt Free libraries with their library card and read 5 aquatic themed books to win admission to the National Aquarium (while supplies last).
The National Aquarium has been sponsoring this program since 2016 and about 59,925 books have been read as a result.
Check out a list of the Aquariums favorite books or ask a librarian for help finding a suitable book.  Once you complete your bookmark you can bring it to the Aquarium's … (2 comments)

baltimore area homes: Cheap Ways to Stay Warm - 01/21/19 01:20 PM
Cheap Ways to Stay Warm
This morning when I woke it was 10 degrees here in Baltimore and it hasn't really warmed up that much, in fact, with the wind chill it is below zero.  I have a small consolation though, in my home town this morning it was -42 F (or C) with the wind chill.  I don't feel so home sick now!!  The house I live in has old aluminum windows, which can be cold in the cold winter weather.  So, I'm always looking for ways to stay warm that don't cost me a fortune.
Replace bathroom exhaust fan switches … (1 comments)

Brrr... It's Drafty!!
I have had a mouse infestation in my house this fall.  A good friend of mine is an Exterminator for live animals like rodents, foxes, and other 4 legged critters so, I asked him to come over and take a look.  He told me we had at least 4 families of mice present and probably 14 or so mice in the house at present.  Yikes!!  We had already caught 4 or 5 in the snap traps but I kept seeing mice in my third floor bedroom and it was starting to freak me out a little when everytime I … (2 comments)

baltimore area homes: End of Summer Checklist - 11/05/18 11:35 AM
End of Summer Checklist
Although summer officially ended on September 21, for many of us south of the Mason Dixon Line the warm weather continues long after that date.  In face, our leaves have just started to change and thoughts of fall are fresh in everyone's mind.  And, maintaining our homes through the winter is top of mind for many homeowners and those considering selling in the spring.
Check your furnace and change your furnace filters.  You may want to have an expert come in and clean and service your furnace so it is in peak performance. Clean gutters - if you … (3 comments)

Deadline for Homestead Tax Credit is December 31, 2012

The Homestead Tax Credit helps protects homeowners, regardless of age, income, or property value, from annually spiking tax bills on the home they live in.  Only homeowners who occupy the home they are applying for the tax credit on can qualify for the tax credit, it does not apply to tenant occupied properties.  As of August 1, 2012, about 65% of current Baltimore City homeowners have not yet applied for this according to Live Baltimore and the Baltimore Sun reported on September 10 that over 100,000 people in Maryland had yet to apply … (0 comments)

Diary of a Realtor Turned Rehabber - cont'd
I haven't posted in a while about my rehab project.  In April my friend, Betsy, and I bought a semi detached house in the historic part of Towson, MD.  In the beginning it was a shell, four walls, windows, floors and a roof.  The furnace and hot water heater were new and in good condition and we were able to keep those.  When we bought the house, it was full of drywall, insulation and some other building materials.
We removed a lot of the materials out of the house and put them in … (2 comments)
