I lived in England for five years while I went to graduate school and my eldest son, Ryan, was born there.  We embraced the culture there and to this day we still celebrate things that are part of our heritage.

A Study in the Observance of Mother's Day and Other Special Days
I celebrate all important days.  That is I spend quality time with my family on Christmas, New Year's, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Labor Day, both Thanksgivings (Canadian and American) and a few other days too. 
Yesterday was Mother's Day, in addition to my family wishes I got up in the morning, I also received text messages from the electrician/plumber/hvac contractor I call wishing me a Happy Mother's Day.  I also received similar messages from my home inspector and favorite lender (all men).  I also received several wishes on … (1 comments)

Traditions
I sit here today thinking about our family traditions.  I am, as many of my readers know, Canadian.  Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving but because my family and I live here in Maryland we celebrate a day early so that we can all be together.  We have all come from somewhere else.  Ellis Island was the first port of call for many of our ancestors and if you are at all interested in geneology your family may have arrived somewhere else along the coast or through another border crossing.
