activerain community support: The Confession of a Blogger in Recovery - 11/11/08 11:45 AM
My life was consumed by blogging on ActiveRain. Though I tried to keep balance in my life I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the comments and the next post I was going to write. I couldn't stop thinking about my positive group and contests to run. It was a never ending addiction during slow times, busy times and any old time.
From March of 2007 .......
I blogged from the time I got up in the morning (okay, I managed to take a shower and get ready for the day first) I pretended to be checking my email for important ...work related mail...when … (64 comments)

activerain community support: WooHoo! It's the "Week in Review 11/3/2008 to 11/09/2008" - 11/10/08 05:59 PM
Aloha!
Welcome to your  weekly report  of the "Week in Review 11/3/2008 to 11/09/2008" where we all can read  a few posts that caught the interest of this writer.  I went searching for any and all posts from all categories that were written from the heart and through each writers inspiring moments.
This is a great way to put all these articles in one place so we have the opportunity to read other's writings that we may not have crossed yet.  Who knows....you may end up subscribing to your "favorite" blog writer!

activerain community support: GONG Uses in Real Estate & Blogging - 10/23/08 07:00 AM
My friend Brian Block sent me a little package the other day. I opened it to find a copy of my post from July.... The Gong Show Returns! along with a miniature gong, gonger (the think that hits the gong) and a gong book of uses.  I crack up.
Who remembers "THE GONG SHOW"?
The book said that you shouldn't use the gong for some of these purposes: in a library, at a best friends wedding, at a funeral, your first date, when your boss is speaking and so forth. Yup, I do believe those may be causes to lose friends and your job … (52 comments)

activerain community support: The Flying Pigs & Fairies of ActiveRain - 10/22/08 06:17 PM
For a week now I have been 'pacing in my mind' regarding blogging. Or even going to Twitter and even keeping up with my outside blogs. Yeah, I've been a little busy (sometimes life is weird that way.....we work)
I couldn't wrap my mind around what I wanted to write. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. This has always been my place to write about what I'm going through regardless if it's a transaction, something I need feedback for or just plain life and the curve balls it flies me at the oddest times.
Please tell me, what's the POINT? by … (35 comments)

activerain community support: Be Creative, Unique & REAL - 10/14/08 09:44 AM
For those of you that have not read Rich Jacobson's post on "Taking Advantage of a Good Thing" - AR Community Guidelines Re-Visited you may want to dive in and learn.
****The last part of our guidelines was stated in Rich's post:
"Do not attempt to selfishly manipulate search engine results through blackhat SEO techniques, such as Keyword Stuffing, or by posting endless copied sections of your local MLS. Violation of this guideline may result in an immediate termination of your ActiveRain account/profile."
We as Real Estate Industry Professionals respect each other & work as a team....so why is it so hard to … (71 comments)

activerain community support: Ever Changing Ideas in an Ever Changing Market - 09/22/08 01:29 PM

On Saturday we took our English Cocker Spaniel "Shadow" to the Regional Park across from Waipio Gentry Community. After running walking around the park in the hot noontime sun for awhile it was time to go. The dog had her tongue hanging on the park grass and she was sooo tired (okay, WE were tired). This isn't going to well is it? HaHa!
Needless to say, I always find something interesting to take a picture of and this mushroom certainly caught my eye! Now, mushroom usually look like umbrella shaped domes with the accordion shaped crinkles flowing under the mushroom.

activerain community support: You ARE an ActiveRain WINNER! - 09/21/08 05:50 AM
We all have an ONLINE presence when we write the written word here or anywhere else ONLINE. We approach each other by keyboard strokes and respond to comments in a professional and humane manner in hopes we are giving back to this community with a Positive Attitude.
Our behavior ONLINE shows our readers WHO we are. Whether it be positive or negative feedback we are SHOWING all readers the kind of professional we are (or not). With those words showing up in cyberspace now and in the future we are surely portraying a professional (or not) in this Real Estate Industry. Those words will continue on … (52 comments)

activerain community support: Hang Around the Barber Shop Long Enough....and You'll Get a Haircut - 09/18/08 09:18 AM
Hanging around negativity long enough and it surely rubs off on you. After writing Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online and receiving many opinions and feedback I want to acknowledge a couple of other topics that relate to blogging online.
No matter what the topic or situation it surely is not a reason to call other people out ONLINE, point direction to their posts or downright bash them. What kinds of people are these? I am human like the next person and though I have my own opinions and judgements too it is NOT professional (or humane) behavior to call attention to someone while … (74 comments)

activerain community support: The ActiveRain Friendship Ball (Brian Block & Kathy McGraw's Turn!) - 09/17/08 10:11 AM
Valerie OlsterHoudt started the Friendship Ball.....and the object of this little game is to tag two people and send them this FRIENDSHIP BALL. Once they get the ball then they can copy and paste it in their message to someone else. Once you receive this FRIENDSHIP BALL, you have to write something about the people you tag. See below. Let's see how many people we can actually send this FRIENDSHIP BALL to.
Then I was tagged by my very good friend George Souto who wrote his to tag Neal Bloom and me. Now....let's tag a couple of more.

How about Kathy … (12 comments)

activerain community support: Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online - 09/16/08 12:27 PM

Professional Attitudes & Behaviors ONLINE should hold true as the same offline. We follow what is stated in our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.  Even if your profession does not specifically have a Code of Ethics it is pretty much common sense to respect others in our industry as well. Our COE specifically states, "The duties imposed by the Code of Ethics encompass all real estate related activities and transactions whether conducted in person, electronically, or through any other means.
More specifically I read many a rude comment about other agents or peers from members here on Active Rain. It also brought … (84 comments)

activerain community support: ActiveRain Friends - 09/14/08 05:20 AM
With all the continued bantering about politics ONLINE I will just keep my opinion to myself. There is one thing today that is more important than your trying to convince me that one is better than the other and it's really none of your darn business who I am voting for anyway. My personal choice.
With all that is going on in the world with natural disasters I stopped to think. What would make a difference today? I picked up the phone yesterday and called long time ActiveRain friend and member Stephanie Edwards. It's been a couple of months since speaking to … (86 comments)

activerain community support: Illusion or Reality? - 09/12/08 04:35 AM

An illusion is a distortion of reality. We look at an object and it appears to be something that really isn't but when we train our brain to look at the object differently then we may perceive the object differently as well. Some illusions take on different perceptions from the assumptions a brain makes. Smell, a disorder (like a headache) and so forth may appear differently under certain circumstances.
We are all human and we all have different thought, beliefs and values. With this in mind we know that ALL humans think differently and therefore have different opinons and when it comes down to it we … (26 comments)

activerain community support: From Braless to Aging Gracefully - 09/04/08 04:44 AM
In the 70's I romped the city braless. Yup, women were standing up for their rights and wearing no bra and saran wrap dresses. Now look at us. With gravity taking its course we throw them over our shoulders and age gracefully. We snicker at the young folk who do not allow nature to run it's course (on the other hand if you're like me you refuse to spend a bunch of money to keep those tummies tight and inserting silicone to keep other places perky) or allow themselves to calm the rebel inside.
Back in the day, I opened my mouth and … (71 comments)

activerain community support: I whine, I cry, I laugh ...HA HA! - 08/28/08 06:07 AM
From others before Audrey June Forshey to our Feng Shui friend in Long Island Carole Provenzale who did these...now Kathy McGraw tagged me for laughing at her getting tagged for a MEME. Okay, my turn for this fill in the blank MEME. I've read many and I kind of like this style. Makes it easier to just fill it in instead of going through the memory bank to find a couple of topics.
Here I go!
I am -  a great wife, mother, daughter and friend  I think - and rethink and I question myself through circumstances I am upset about. (it usually ends … (34 comments)

activerain community support: For EVERY Action There is a REACTION - 08/20/08 08:23 AM
After much thought (and sleeping on it over night) I do believe that it will always be an ongoing problem to voice ones opinion and get a negative reaction....instead of acceptance that we are all human. We all have different thought patterns, beliefs, and opinions. I like being different.
So I am regurgitating an old post of mine (and deleted the old one) to give insight into this ongoing battle of the blogging minds.
For every action there is a reaction but be rest assured the theory that follows is....it's all in the manner of how each individual handles it.  We all have … (14 comments)

activerain community support: It's The PEOPLE That Matter - Where's Sarah Cooper? - 08/19/08 01:58 PM
Wow...I just noticed that many members I 'grew up' with on ActiveRain are barely posting here anymore. Well, I remember them. Sarah Cooper must be busy but I remember this post Maybe It's Not So Ordinary After All ... where we spoke on the phone and she went outside .... I heard a train whistle blowing and she wrote a post and included a whistle blower!
"It's the People Under the Words That Matter" in which she chose to use a comment of mine and make it into a thoughtful and well thought out post.
Sarah says, "And the really cool thing about … (38 comments)

activerain community support: Your Writing Reflects YOU - 08/18/08 06:34 AM
Active Rain Real Estate Network is unlike any other blogging site and we all play a crucial role in the success of this network.  Gear your writing towards the Real Estate Industry, write about what comes to mind in a positive light and you will gain readership and we all can comment back, give support, feedback, tributes and congratulations.

Writing good content. My belief is to show the consumer and members here on Active Rain the who, what, when, where, how and why about my area, my profession and what I can do for them. It is this personal touch that adds meaning to a post and … (103 comments)

activerain community support: THE NEW LOCALISM: Writing With the Local Stars! - 08/16/08 12:39 PM
The NEW Localism is geared toward your LOCAL AREA of expertise. There has been no stronger force than ActiveRain for Google Juice and they will be going for the gusto with LOCALISM.COM. My suggestion is to get your sponsorship going and reclassify your old posts and get them into each of the communities you are sponsoring and write quality eye appealing and information posts about your area and your area of expertise. Without knowing about your area how are you going to sell property?
We have always written about our local markets, tips for the consumer, views on Real Estate Industry related topics, the … (47 comments)

activerain community support: Most Common Things that Reveal Your Blogging Worthiness - 08/10/08 03:41 PM
A while back I wrote a post with some tips on what NOT to do so you will continue to gain readership.  We on ActiveRain who have been writing for awhile know that we have to have a certain transparency and courtesy for other bloggers. Why?
Without members subscribing to your blog how will you gain readership? How will the consumer judge you from your writing? How will you show your peers your professional attitude to create a referral network? There is a fine line between giving an opinion and being opinionated because  We All Have an Opinion... BUT (that dreaded 'but') … (91 comments)

activerain community support: We All Have an Opinion... - 08/09/08 05:31 PM
We all have opinions because we're all human and all have different thinking. That's why we're all unique. BUT (that dreaded 'but') sometimes we need to take a step back and be quiet for a moment and think before we pound the keyboard.
I was waiting at the Chiropractor for my husband to get finished and picked up the Honolulu Advertiser. I read about Obama visits Hawaii and I saw that on the news last night as well so I moved on. Obama connects with the plate lunch spirit on Hawaii vacation and then I saw a picture of Obama jogging on Kailua … (28 comments)
