games people play: YOUR Online Presence & The Aftermath - 11/02/08 07:07 PM
If there is one thing that I truly believe causes conflict with friendship and professional relationships is the behavior that comes with discussing and ranting about religious and political views. Okay, it's more than that. It's the trying to incite an online 'riot' of sorts.
Yup, we all have our opinions and when it starts getting mean, nasty and downright negative it's disrespectful to this platform as well as the intent of this network. A REAL Estate Network. Then to top it all off with the ulterior motive of trying to force ones opinion down another persons throat it is then that it becomes unprofessional and downright judgmental and prejudiced.

games people play: GONG Uses in Real Estate & Blogging - 10/23/08 07:00 AM
My friend Brian Block sent me a little package the other day. I opened it to find a copy of my post from July.... The Gong Show Returns! along with a miniature gong, gonger (the think that hits the gong) and a gong book of uses.  I crack up.
Who remembers "THE GONG SHOW"?
The book said that you shouldn't use the gong for some of these purposes: in a library, at a best friends wedding, at a funeral, your first date, when your boss is speaking and so forth. Yup, I do believe those may be causes to lose friends and your job … (52 comments)

games people play: It's 4:00 AM! - 09/26/08 08:06 AM
Deep in slumber at 4:00am HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TIME the phone rings. By the second ring I wake up to actually know that I wasn't still dreaming. Then I bark out loud (asking no one in particular), "What the hay"? I scramble to answer the phone and seemingly miss the call. I check the 'recent incoming calls' and see that it is a long distance number.
GRRRRRRR.
We already know what this call is. A telemarketer that left no message and did not take into consideration the time zones.
I get back to sleep in 10 minutes and at 5:15am I wake to the … (63 comments)

games people play: Hang Around the Barber Shop Long Enough....and You'll Get a Haircut - 09/18/08 09:18 AM
Hanging around negativity long enough and it surely rubs off on you. After writing Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online and receiving many opinions and feedback I want to acknowledge a couple of other topics that relate to blogging online.
No matter what the topic or situation it surely is not a reason to call other people out ONLINE, point direction to their posts or downright bash them. What kinds of people are these? I am human like the next person and though I have my own opinions and judgements too it is NOT professional (or humane) behavior to call attention to someone while … (74 comments)

games people play: Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online - 09/16/08 12:27 PM

Professional Attitudes & Behaviors ONLINE should hold true as the same offline. We follow what is stated in our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.  Even if your profession does not specifically have a Code of Ethics it is pretty much common sense to respect others in our industry as well. Our COE specifically states, "The duties imposed by the Code of Ethics encompass all real estate related activities and transactions whether conducted in person, electronically, or through any other means.
More specifically I read many a rude comment about other agents or peers from members here on Active Rain. It also brought … (84 comments)

games people play: The Best Gift is Laughter....and YOU! - 09/15/08 04:47 AM
Waking up this morning to ActiveRain (like every morning) brought me wonderful greetings for my birthday ...thanks to all!  But that's not what I want to write about. Kathy McGraw wrote a Monday Morning Gifts....Happy Birthday Sally but that's not what I want to write about either.
You see, ActiveRain Friends that I have made along my journey on ActiveRain is surely a bizarre way to meet people in our industry. But yes, I have made a few that have come to know me and who I am through my writing, talking with me and actually meeting me.
I met Kathy McGraw  in November … (57 comments)

games people play: Uh...Hello? ???? A Courtesy Call Would Have Been Nice.... - 09/11/08 02:13 PM
The cat is out of the bag. After picking up 'potential clients' that I had been working with since May of this year I really believed we had a 'relationship' going on. They were relocating and finally arrived last week. No need to go into all that I had done since May but bottom line is this.
After picking them up from the airport they have to go to the quarantine station at the airport so they can see their dogs. THEN, they have to go to the quarantine station to drop off papers. THEN, they have to check in at the hotel. THEN, they … (86 comments)

games people play: It's The PEOPLE That Matter - Where's Sarah Cooper? - 08/19/08 01:58 PM
Wow...I just noticed that many members I 'grew up' with on ActiveRain are barely posting here anymore. Well, I remember them. Sarah Cooper must be busy but I remember this post Maybe It's Not So Ordinary After All ... where we spoke on the phone and she went outside .... I heard a train whistle blowing and she wrote a post and included a whistle blower!
"It's the People Under the Words That Matter" in which she chose to use a comment of mine and make it into a thoughtful and well thought out post.
Sarah says, "And the really cool thing about … (38 comments)

games people play: Pixels, Megapixels, Digital Images & 'Laugh Lines' - 08/15/08 08:09 AM
Okay, it's Friday and I REALLY need to have answers to this thing that's been bothering me for quite some time. You know how people keep saying that we should have our REAL pictures up here without 'touching it up'? Well, I think that's B.S. Why? Why would anyone want to show their detailed 'laugh lines' (okay, age lines, wrinkles)
Generally thinking, pixels are the smallest single component of a digital image. Regarding cameras, digital images are 'photosensor elements'. In plain language it means the more pixels used to represent an image....well, the more it represents a more detailed image (closer to … (51 comments)

games people play: Where's the Fairy Godmother? - 08/11/08 05:38 PM
When I am representing a Hawaii Home Buyer or a Hawaii Home Seller there is always one basic rule:  No matter which hat I'm wearing I totally think and perform in the best interests of my client.  I have the ability to switch my hats and shift into high gear for whichever side I am representing.
The problems that keeps reoccuring are the ones with other agents who are not performing even the menial tasks that come with "job". Regardless if the market is booming or not we are professionals and do everything down to detail. Right? Uh...not so when it's a limited menu item agency representing the seller.
It's so … (37 comments)

games people play: Paybacks ARE an 'itch' ...... woooohoooooo! - 08/10/08 04:43 PM
Okay, remember when Gary caught me on video? The Bored Spouse Needs to Get a Life  showed his sneaky yet chuckling joking side. The nerve of him to try and catch me with the "what did you say about that person" question. (good thing I didn't answer hehehe)
So NOW...let's just show you how paybacks are an 'itch' in this household.
Some parts of it you can't hear good so I'll write the lines....
Background:  (his game saying "game on!") Me:  Huh? Gary: Want one?  Mmm (eating shrimp cocktail) He leans over and opens the door for the dog to come … (19 comments)

games people play: Most Common Things that Reveal Your Blogging Worthiness - 08/10/08 03:41 PM
A while back I wrote a post with some tips on what NOT to do so you will continue to gain readership.  We on ActiveRain who have been writing for awhile know that we have to have a certain transparency and courtesy for other bloggers. Why?
Without members subscribing to your blog how will you gain readership? How will the consumer judge you from your writing? How will you show your peers your professional attitude to create a referral network? There is a fine line between giving an opinion and being opinionated because  We All Have an Opinion... BUT (that dreaded 'but') … (91 comments)

games people play: Are YOU Setting Healthy Boundaries With Your Clients & Peers? - 07/25/08 03:05 AM
Believe it or not, there is a name for people pleasers. The ones who do not know how to be straightforward and only tell people what they want to hear. They let OTHER people dictate how they 'should' feel about a certain situation and under certain circumstances allow others be the bearer of bad news. They let OTHER people dictate how they 'should' be and you can see in their mannerisms that they are ...well...not so confident in themselves.
Otherwise known as Codependency. The definition is: A Dysfunctional Relationship With SELF.  Yup there's a name for it all right. I can't fix anyone (you … (67 comments)

games people play: Panoramic Pictures or Distorted Fakes? - 06/18/08 08:10 AM
While making showing appointments this morning for my clients I started looking at all the listings my clients chose from their 'personal web page' that I set up through our MLS system. I looked at the profile page photo and then clicked to look at more pictures.
MANY of the listings had panoramic views of yards that looked ten times bigger than the sq./ft one would presume would have been smaller looking.  Especially with only 3,000 sq. ft. of land with a 1200 sq/ft home sitting on it.

This is a "panoramic view" (stitching three pictures together) of a current listing of mine. It looks distorted and gives the … (47 comments)

games people play: GAME...ON!!! - 06/17/08 05:44 PM
While commenting on other members posts this evening my husband is behind me on his PC playing ShadowRun. What a Gamer. Shoot 'em up and knock em dead!  Bang! Pow! KaBoom!  Rat a Tat Tat! And then it switches to another level or something and the voice says, "GAME ON"!
Right then and there an idea for a post came to mind!
MANY of us have written about the importance of writing for our niche market. The Consumer. The Public. The Real Estate Industry Readers. The Peers.....and hoping we make some kind of connection with all.
We're not talking ads....we're talking REAL … (44 comments)
