honolulu county hawaii: Bishop Museum in Honolulu Hawaii - 08/04/09 02:38 PM
Bishop Museum in Honolulu Hawaii has been one of my favorite places to go for rich Hawaiian and Polynesian history with artifacts and information galore!
Bishop Museum always schedules grand events with all sorts of themes. They set up tents with local wares from artists and crafts for purchase and they usually have a music or entertainment part of the event and they use the large grassy area in the middle of the grounds for all to enjoy.
The Bishop Museum Store has other wares such as puzzles, post cards, dolls, pictures and more!

The following events are scheduled and I'm hoping … (5 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Waikiki Beach- Still Going Strong With Surf, Sun and Fun! - 02/10/09 03:33 AM

This is a view of Waikiki Beach on February 8, 2009 at approximately 11:00am. Everyone was either at the Pro Bowl or headed to the last Pro Bowl game at the Aloha Stadium. Yet, with all reports on tourism and visitors numbers going down it sure took on a different life this past Sunday.

Maybe everyone on the beach didn't come for the Pro Bowl? Maybe they just came to soak in the sun? Maybe take advantage of great air fare rates? Hotel rates? Just came to get away from the cold?

Whatever the case may be it was … (28 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Pacific Medical Healthcare & Supply- A SUPERSTORE - 12/20/08 04:20 AM

This past Tuesday I took mom to Pacific Medical Healthcare & Supply so she could get her elasticized stocking to support her leg from ankle to knee. Months ago she injured her leg on the golf course and landed in the hospital with a severed artery. Anyway, she's healed and back to golfing but her leg still gives her problems. (Keep in mind that mom will be 81 years old come January and she is still working at a Country Club four days a week and goes golfing every Monday!)
I love mom.
When we got there I thought it was … (21 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: "Torrential Thursday" in Hawaii! - 12/11/08 08:29 AM

We awoke at 4:30am to banging on the window. Yup, the storm had indeed arrived!
At 5:30 this morning I was showered and dressed...ready to start my day.
I love mornings....no matter what the weather. Right.
Flooding, torrential rain, winds up to 50mph in some places and a couple of broken poincetta plants so far. Sob.
These are the kinds of days where I should stay in ...cozy up to my blog ...with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand and tapping on the keyboard with the other :)

But...nooooo.  It's off to the office as soon as … (19 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Loco Moco Drive Inn in Waipio Gentry: Local Style Grinds! - 12/09/08 02:46 AM

A popular drive inn with plate lunches and local style grinds is the Loco Moco Drive Inn located in the Waipio Gentry Shopping Center (94-800 Ukee Street) and they have a variety of meals and an array of side dishes on their menu to order from. From "plate lunches" to burgers to saimin soup you will definitely have to ponder for a few minutes before deciding.
For those of you that are unfamililar with what a "plate lunch" is, we classify it as a 'take out lunch - or dinner on a plate to go'. The oh so famous plate lunches usually come with an 'entree' such … (14 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Across the Still Waters (A View) - 12/02/08 03:51 PM

A vision of the clear glassy water
Then a faint whisper of wind
To push a ripple towards me
And to take my breath away.
A fleeting thought passes,
As if light feathered steps
Could glide across this still water
To the patiently waiting vessel
And sail into the horizon
On a cool December day.

NOTE:   The above picture was taken off the side of the road on Kaneohe Bay Drive this past Sunday. We were driving around a turn and this scene erupted in front of us to stop us in our journey. The peaceful view just gave me … (23 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: The Mystery & Beauty of The Waikiki Aquarium - 11/16/08 02:22 PM

With cameras and video in tow we headed down to Waikiki from Central Oahu to the Waikiki Aquarium. Long talked about for something fun to do we hopped in the car after talking about it last night. We did everything we needed to do early this morning so we could have a few hours of pleasure.

It was well worth the half an hour trip and after going from window to window at the Waikiki Aquarium's displays we came upon ......

honolulu county hawaii: Tropical Fall Months in Honolulu County Hawaii - 11/15/08 03:18 PM
Well, we sure don't have the fall leaves changing colors and we don't have snow or seasonal pictures standing out in a crowd displaying the distinct months of the year. What we do have in Honolulu County is a warm tropical climate with blue skies that take your breath away day after day throughout the year.

During the month of November we still have the wonderful sunny skies with a little bit cooler temperature although it's still sun, fun, boating and surfing with the larger waves peaking on the North Shore of Oahu. In fact, the 2008 World Championship Tour with … (31 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Mililani Memorial Park - Honolulu County Hawaii - 09/20/08 06:13 AM

Right off the beaten path in the middle of preservation land I drove until there was a grand opening in the woods displaying a wonderful grassy area with palms, trees and floral arrangements galore. The Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary sits on 34.94 acres of land (or 1,521,986 sq. ft. of land) and displays rolling hills high above sea level for peace and tranquility for the dearly departed.
In 1991 they proposed a bill for rezoning for the Mililani Memorial Park from AG-1 (Restricted Agricultural) to P-2 (General Preservation Distric) for the expansion of Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary and … (34 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Hawaiian Electric (HECO) Rebates on Energy Star® Appliances - 08/09/08 04:57 AM
We decided to start doing more to make our townhouse more energy efficient. Well, there's just so much you can do for a small townhouse so we started with the lightbulbs and an air conditioner a couple of years ago. Then, a couple of weeks ago we went to Costco and we found TWO 52" Hunter ceiling fans with lights and on the box it had a sticker "Energy Star".
Why did we start getting to be energy efficient wise guys?
Our Hawaiian Electric bill was almost one hundred eighty dollars And....our electric bill will KEEP climbing We needed to reduce our … (13 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Life's Curve Balls- Ah...the Bliss of Responsible Condo Living (UPDATE) - 07/09/08 12:21 PM

We reside in a townhouse complex in Waipio Gentry; about 5-10 minutes from Mililani, Hawaii where I actually grew up during the 70's and where my mom still lives. Anyway, I wanted to be close to mom so we could help her as she is getting older now. (she just turned 80 in January) so we bought this townhouse in March of 2005.
A small unit (I was talking to Lola Audu earlier and she could not believe I lived in a 500 sq. ft. unit) in a complex I adore. The problems started with tenants in the unit above us who … (36 comments)

honolulu county hawaii: Mililani Recreation Centers and Fun for All Ages! - 07/01/08 07:21 AM

Mililani Town was voted the All America City in 1986 and it is the only community in Hawaii to ever receive this distinction.
My parents bought their new home in Mililani in 1971 and I was just starting high school. To this day my mom still lives in the same house and my son and daughter grew up in that same house too. From Kindergarten to High School the Mililani Community and Schools served us well. My children just came back home within the past two years and help my mom (who just turned 80 in January of this year) … (19 comments)
