us navy: History of Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii - 06/29/11 03:53 PM
Located smack in the middle of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Ford Island connects by the Ford Island Bridge (Named the Admiral Clarey Bridge) and houses many naval facilities and has military housing as well.

The island was called "Moku  ‘ume ‘ume" (moe koo oo may oo may) and the translation is ‘isle of attraction'.  The island was named after a Boston physician named Dr. Seth Porter Ford (1818 to 1866) who practiced medicine at the Hawaiian Insane Asylum and US Seamen's Hospital  (1861-1866).

us navy: Pearl Harbor Hawaii |US Navy Bone Yard of Decommissioned Vessels - 08/18/10 01:11 PM
While riding past the U.S. Navy ship "graveyard" located at Middle Loch in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (the Waipahu side of Pearl Harbor) I wondered how many ships were in this "graveyard". While researching I found out that this Middle Loch U.S. Navy ship "graveyard" is also known as a bone yard.

This Navy "Inactive" ship facility is just one of the three remaining bone yards for decommissioned vessels. This facility has been renamed about four times and is now known as the "Inactive Ships On-Site Maintenance Office".
The following information is of the remaining decommissioned ships in Middle Loch, Pearl … (16 comments)

us navy: A New Year's Day - 2010 Unfolding - 01/03/10 06:02 AM
As year 2009 ended I thought about all things big and small in Don't Forget to Stop and Smell the Flowers.  I wrote, "I am once again in awe of the curve balls that life throws me....and how I handled it to bring on a fresh 2010 with glorious dreams, hopes and wishes that I will soon fulfill."
My family started out January 01, 2010 as any other New Year's Day.  We were having a relaxing morning and went out to run a couple of errands. As soon as I walked in the door my phone rings and it's the phone … (21 comments)

us navy: For Memorial Day- A Tribute to My Son & All Who Served - 05/24/09 06:50 AM
There are no further words to explain the love a mother has for her children; especially if they are in the the mililtary and in a war zone. I wrote the following post: How Can I Stand Here With You- And Not Be Moved By You? back in May of 2007 in memory of the heartwrenching, pull on mom's heartstrings during these times with my son who was in the US Navy. The day the war broke out on March 19th, it was my son's birthday and he was on the USS Kitty Hawk ...and in the Persian Guld.

us navy: The USS Kitty Hawk Arrives in Pearl Harbor Hawaii - 07/02/08 01:28 PM
My son was in the United States Navy and stationed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk air craft carrier based out of Yokosuka, Japan until the summer of 2006.
He was aboard the ship and in the Persian Gulf the day the war was announced on March 19th, 2003 and I, as a mom, was sick to stomach and besides myself with worry. It was his birthday. I didn't hear from my son for a couple of months. READ MORE HERE
He served his ship and his country well, and when the ship pulled into Pearl Harbor yesterday my son was so excited!  He has … (37 comments)
