Friday's bond market has opened down slightly despite early stock losses and a weaker than expected consumer sentiment reading. The stock markets are reacting to earnings news with the Dow down 87 points and the Nasdaq down 30 points. The bond market is currently down 4/32, which should push this morning's mortgage rates higher by approximately .125 of a discount point.Today's only economic data was the University of Michigan's update to their Index of Consumer Sentiment for April. There are only three economic reports worth watching this week that are likely to affect mortgage rates. Two of them are scheduled for release the same day, meaning we may see a relatively calm week for mortgage rates. The financial markets are closed tomorrow in observance of the President's Day Holiday and will reopen Tuesday morning. You may find some lenders to be open for business tomorrow, but I would not expect to see new rates issued until Tuesday.Wednesday morning brings us the release of two of this week's relevant news and data. Monday's bond market has opened in positive territory following some early stock weakness. The stock markets are mixed with the Dow down 49 points and the Nasdaq up a single point. The bond market is currently up11/32, but we will likely still see a slight increase in this morning's mortgage rates as a result of weakness in bonds late Friday.There is no relevant economic news scheduled for release today or tomorrow.
