Recycling Christmas Trees in Porter County Indiana The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County will kick off their Christmas tree recycling program on January 7th.
The Valparaiso compost site will be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays beginning on January 7, 2012. TheValparaiso site is located at 2150 W. Lincolnway,ValparaisoIndiana. Porter County residents are welcome to bring once live Christmas trees, wreaths and other organic waste. Crown Point Indiana Parkinson’s Disease Support Group Christmas Party - Monday, December 19 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There will be karaoke, and a comfort food potluck featuring soups and chili.
The support group meets the third Monday of the month at the Marion Education Center, Franciscan St. Anthony Health, 1201 S. Main St., Crown Point, Indiana 46307 Time is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Parkinsons Support Group meets to share information, give mutual support, and talk about coping. Parkinsons patients and caregivers are welcome to join this free group.

The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots and the City of Crown Point, Indiana are hosting a Holiday Toys for Tots Drive. Marine Corp Reserve units have been collecting and distributing toys for needed children since 1947. Over the past 62 years the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program has distributed over 400 million toys to over 188 million children.

County Fairs are a big deal in Indiana. The 4H programs are a huge part of this. A couple weeks ago I had a closing in Rensselaer, IN. I suggested we go out for lunch before the closing. My client surprised me by taking me to the Jasper County Fair for lunch. I got a chance to stop by the rabbit barn and say hello to my niece and nephew. It was quite a pleasant outing and closing! I was sitting at the first of my two open houses for the day reflecting on what a difference a week can make. It seems that March has decided to go out like a lion here in Northwest Indiana. We were in for a rude awakening this morning. I wanted to pull the covers over my head and go back to sleep when I saw the snow. My first thought was "are you kidding me"! CROWN POINT -- The city has scheduled a St. Patrick's Day parade for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The city expects 32 entries, including emergency vehicles and the Lake County Pipes and Drums. It will begin at Solon Robinson Elementary School and proceed down Wells Street to Main Street, then north to the downtown square, and down Court Street to Walnut.
