I’ve been hearing and reading about who other people think the new SBA Administrator might be, so I decided to contribute to the conversation. In case you haven’t heard, the current Administrator, Karen Mills, is stepping down at the end of August and the White House has yet to name a replacement. She made her announcement in February, which means we’ve had five months of speculation.
Instead of guessing who the next SBA Administrator might be, I put together a list of characteristics he or she should possess and a few things that ought to be done to help America’s (0 comments)

I’m on my way to Washington! Late last week I got an invitation to speak before the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship this Thursday (tomorrow). They want me to discuss the FY 2013 SBA budget request, and I’m going to primarily talk about how to get the 504 program back to its historical zero-subsidy status. On the heels of the recently-passed JOBS (Jumpstart Our Business Startups) Act, we want them to extend the 504 Refi and FMLP programs by at least one year each (among other things). We hope to improve these programs and get zero-subsidy, SBA-supported capital flowing (1 comments)

On Monday, September 27th, President Obama signed into law the bill known as HR 5297, or the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act. I’ve been reading a lot of commentaries about what is and isn’t included in this new law, and there is still some ambiguity about parts of this legislation. I’ve read the text myself, and it’s hard to say exactly how the technicalities in this law will be applied. This video is the first in a series from the SBA 504 Experts, explaining the particulars of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act.
