lorton va real estate: Another Military Family Moves Into Their New Lorton VA Home - 05/01/14 08:54 AM
Over the years I've had the pleasure of working with many military families with orders to Fort Belvoir, the Pentagon and Quantico MCB.  In the case of Bob and Kerrie I've had the pleasure of helping them with 4 transactions since we first met in 2004.
The first time I helped them sell their townhouse in Lorton as they headed to new duty station in Texas. A few years later orders brought them back to Fort Belvoir and they purchased a new home in Lorton. Sure enough after deployments overseas, PCS orders came and they needed to sell again.  A few months … (1 comments)

lorton va real estate: Cook Inlet Shares An Address With Fort Belvoir But It's Not On Post Housing - 05/07/13 08:53 AM
Cook Inlet A Fort Belvoir Address But It's Not Post Housing When most people think of a Fort Belvoir  address they immediately think of the U.S. Army Post.  However Cook Inlet shares the Fort Belvoir postal address with its close neighbor but it is not part of the Army Post.
About The Cook Inlet Neighorhood The first issue to clear up about the neighborhood is the name. Though the official Fairfax County tax records show the name of the subdivision as Cook Inlet the neighborhood is also advertised as Inlet Cove and the entrance sign coming in the community says Inlet … (2 comments)

lorton va real estate: What's Next For The "New Lorton" in Fairfax County VA - 07/12/12 06:29 AM
Lorton VA neighborhoods have been around a long time. In fact the Lorton area has plenty of history that goes all the way back to our early famous neighbors, George Washington and George Mason. There are older neighborhoods which are just as popular today as they were when they were built in the 50's, 60's and 70's.  Over the last 15 years a "new" Lorton has emerged which has brought a renewal to southern Fairfax County. Most of the "new" Lorton growth came about when the DC Correctional Complex in Lorton was ordered closed in 1998. With just over 3200 acres … (6 comments)

When most Northern Virginia residents think of hiking in Mason Neck they immediately gravitate towards the largest park in the area, Mason Neck State Park.  It's a beautiful area and for anyone who wants to look for Bald Eagles it is the place to go.  However just a few miles before you reach Mason Neck State Park is the Meadowood Recreation Area managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

lorton va real estate: Barrett House-A Lorton VA Historic Landmark - 12/03/11 05:53 AM
Barrett House today stands empty and surrounded by fencing to keep out intruders. However, since the early twentieth century the home located on Ox Road in Lorton has stood watching the changes to the surrounding area. Originally the property where Barrett House sits was part of a 3,500-acre tract granted by Lord Fairfax in England to Virginia colonist Robert Carter, Jr. in 1729. Over the years the land was divided and subdivided by various owners. Around 1891 Barrett House was constructed on 258 acres and used as a country home for a DC based lumber merchant. A few more ownership changes … (3 comments)

lorton va real estate: It Wasn't Pretty But It's Done And Now It's Time To Celebrate - 07/01/11 09:19 AM
At the beginning of the week my post "A Busy Week Ahead-I'll Be The Little Train That Could" outlined the hope that this week would end with 5 closed transactions.  By the middle of the week the post shifted to "Settlements-They Aren't Supposed to Be a Game of Musical Chairs"  as settlement dates and times started to move around. Finally this afternoon the last settlement happened.  It was supposed to have been the easiest one of the week, a cash transaction on new construction but NAH, not all of the wire transfers happened as planned.  Just goes to show that you have … (26 comments)

lorton va real estate: Speechless Sunday-Hopefully It Was A Friendly Rivalry - 01/09/11 09:44 AM
Earler this week I posted a photo of artwork on the wall at the former mens dormitory at the DC Reformatory in Lorton VA.This is the first painting in support of the Chicago Bulls.
There was a second painting in the same men's dormitory on the opposite wall.

These could have been done by the same artist as the style and certainly the colors are similiar. < Being inside a prison we can hope that the artwork inspired friendly rivalry during games and nothing more.

lorton va real estate: Sunday Morning Coffee With One Of Virginia's Leading Citizens - 09/19/10 04:21 AM
Okay he didn't exactly join me for a cup of coffee but he did say all of us could stop by his house to soak in a little fall sunshine and history.

Gunston Hall was the home of George Mason IV one of the fathers of the Bill of Rights and at one point encompassed 5500 hundred acres.  The home was completed in 1759 and was George Mason's home up until his death in 1792.  George Mason was a fourth generation Virginian with family roots that go back to arrival in Norfolk Virginia in 1652. George Mason's influence in buildings … (12 comments)
