Buckeye, Arizona The City of Buckeye is located approximately 30 miles west of downtown Phoenix just off of the I-10 freeway. The original town of Buckeye was founded by early pioneers in 1888 and was built around the downtown's main street. Agriculture was a huge part of Buckeye's identity for decades, and while there is still farmland in the area (mainly cotton and alfalfa), numerous communities and subdivision have been built, the majority of them have easy access to the freeway.
