suffolk county home stager: Holiday Decorating a Homeless Shelter
- 12/07/10 10:52 AM
HELP Suffolk Homeless Shelter recreation room had a Winter Wonderland vignette created by North Fork Staged to Sell's Cindy Garruba. Done on a shoestting budget, Cindy used things she had in her workshop to create the vignette. Foam core and batting were made into a snowman and snow woman. Buttons for the eyes, a hat and scarf from the Dollar store, a little fabric, a simple wooden stand to prop them up, and then they were put on either side of the tree. The tree was decorated with a few ornaments and some shimmery white ribbon, raised up to give it some

suffolk county home stager: Are You Thankful?
- 11/23/10 02:47 AM
Every year on Thanksgiving after saying grace, while eating our feast, my family takes turns expressing what we are each thankful for that year. I was reflecting on what I will be saying this year. It has not been an easy year for most of us; the economy really continues to be a challenge. Still I have more to be thankful for then I might have first thought. I have a wonderful family, a beautiful caring daughter who is becoming a responsible young adult, sisters who are my best friends, nephews and nieces who are now adults, getting married, starting careers

suffolk county home stager: Repurposing Furniture
- 10/15/10 05:11 AM
I have gotten such great comments on some furniture I have repurposed that I decided to write a blog about repurposing. In this economy it is wise to be frugal, why throw away something that can be reused in a new way? I don't like to contribute to the landfill, it is cool to be green today and there is a market out there for green businesses. When I see an old piece of furniture in my home, a client's home, a yard sale or auction my creative juices start to flow. I have even stopped and picked things out of

suffolk county home stager: Apartment for Young Couple
- 09/26/10 10:46 AM
This apartment is the home of young professionals who recently completed their graduate studies. They are transitioning from student to adult life and wanted to have a space reflective of their new lifestyle. This apartment is in a Philadelphia, has a lot of charm. We added window treatments, rearranged furniture, dressed up the bed, created an office, added accessories and just pulled it all together. Without spending much, the apartment came together. The couple was thrilled and the space now feels warm and more adult. A great space for starting out their new lives.

suffolk county home stager: Staging a Bookcase
- 09/21/10 03:13 AM
Bookcases can be great focal points and design opportunities in your home, but cluttered bookcases are just distractions. Take a look at your bookcases in your home. Are they in the right room, are they positioned well. What do you have in them? Do you need that much stuff? When I am staging a house or redesigning a room, often just rearranging and decluttering a bookcase will make a real statement in a room. Take everything out of the bookcase, clean it, remove all paperback books, only put back into the bookcase things that really are loved by the homeowner, books that

suffolk county home stager: Cottage on the Bay gets a Make Over
- 09/06/10 12:43 PM
This cottage is lovely and the view out the sliding glass doors is a beautiful view of boats on an inlet. This is the best feature of the property, in my opinion. When I walked into the house for the first time the view was blocked by a couch!! The room was cluttered and out of date. Paint, new drapes, new neutral couch, the piano repositioned, some artwork and a much better layout made a huge difference in this room. Before the sliders and the view are blocked by a couch: Removed the couch, repositioned piano in the right direction

suffolk county home stager: Country Kitchen Changes Make a Big Difference
- 09/01/10 08:45 AM
This client's home is a country cottage overlooking an inlet on a bay. Very cute, but not completely functional. The refrigerator was right next to the bathroom, openning up the wrong way. Limited counterspace needed to be fixed, too. I found an under the counter refrigerator in the garage, had my carpenter expand the countertop, which was fairly easy since the countertop was stock white tile. He put the wine refrigerator under the counter. Great increase of countertop space. Then we had to move the refrigerator to a better spot. There was an old pantry on the other side of

suffolk county home stager: Update an Out of Date Favorite Piece in Your Client's Home
- 08/20/10 04:28 PM
Staging budgets need create reuse of furniture that your clients already own. Maybe you will add a piece or two, but favorite pieces can often be easily updated with some simple fixes. I took this floral chair; it had busy small print that needed to be neutralized and modernized. I added a beautiful rattan ottoman and I made a pillow cover from left over fabric from the velvet drapes in the room, a nice firm bed pillow is the stuffing for the pillow. The addition of some fringe to the pillow really added some wow factor to the pillow cover. The throw pillow

suffolk county home stager: Tackle the Clutter
- 08/06/10 07:57 PM
•1. Formulate a plan for de-cluttering and organizing. •2. Set a date to begin and complete the task and stick to it! •3. Sort items into 4 categories: keep, pass on to family or friends, sell, toss. •4. Take pictures of items you want to pass on or sell. •5. Email pictures to family and friends and make sure they want them before you keep it for them (or they will remain clutter!) •6. Sell items on Ebay or Craigslist, or hold a yard sale. Advertise the sale!! •7. Donate all unsold items - DON'T BRING THEM BACK INTO YOUR HOME!!
