selling your home: When Does the Spring Market Begin in Real Estate? - 02/17/11 04:21 AM
When Does the Spring Market Begin in Real Estate?
You may be surprised - but the spring market has actually arrived.  Regardless of the fact that we still have four foot piles of snow in our yards, this is the time of the year to begin to seriously plan the sale of your home.
I know people who wait for symbolic milestones to pass.  Those include the Christmas holidays, Groundhog Day, the Super Bowl and President's Day.  Well, we are just about at that critical juncture.
Now is a good time to begin the process:
Make necessary repairs or updates before putting … (10 comments)

selling your home: Selling Your Massachusetts Home? Put Away Those Precious "Collections" - 12/03/10 09:28 AM
The late comedian, George Carlin had a famous routine about stuff. One of his lines was, "A house is just a pile stuff with a cover on it."
Some people take this a bit too literally, particularly those with a fondness for collecting.  I have seen some collections in homes that are really in danger of taking over the place.
What are some of the things that people collect?

But the most interesting detail of … (26 comments)

I was showing homes to a client today when I walked into something that gave me more of a jar than my first cup of coffee.
Entering the foyer of a brand new home, I saw red.  ... and lilac, maroon, olive green and, eventually a bright yellow kitchen.  This was all within my initial eyeshot as I entered this house.  I could not help but to gasp as the listing broker said, "Wait until you see upstairs."
On the second level there was a purple room, a bright pink room and a mint green room.  In the master bedroom, … (15 comments)

Cluttered Homes - A Major Turn off for Massachusetts Home Buyers
There is an old saying, "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression."
This is never truer than when a buyer steps into your home for the first time. Odors, ambiance and cleanliness have such a profound impact on most buyers that they will usually not get past a bad first impression.
When previewing homes for buyer clients I have come across some scenes that make me wonder if the seller realizes just how important home cleanliness is in the home selling process.
It's difficult with … (14 comments)
