western north carolina: I Don't Answer My Phone - 08/23/18 01:30 PM
Today I had calls from Memphis, TN; New York; Fall Church, VA; Bay Point, CA; and Randallstown, MD. It would be great if those calls were coming from clients but I will never know because I didn’t answer any of them. Truth is, I’m a successful Realtor and I no longer answer my phone.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is fed up with the run away number of robo calls, scams, unwanted solicitations, and unwanted texts notifying me that I’m a winner (thanks, but I already know that).  The National Do Not Call program is a joke. I’ve had … (4 comments)

October 10 is Columbus Day and what better way to celebrate Chris' place in our country's history than with a discovery of your own!
People come to the mountains of western North Carolina for a lot of reasons - the climate, the incredible scenery, fly fishing, mountain biking, and a host of other outdoor sports. For a lot of folks, they come here to enjoy all those things on vacation and end up finding out that this is the kind of place where they really want to live. In this crazy world, there is a lot to be said for the peace and … (3 comments)

western north carolina: We admit it. We're biased about Brevard, NC - 08/11/16 11:14 PM
We admit it....when it comes to living in Brevard, North Carolina we are biased. After living in Florida for 30+ years and watching the area morph from a nice Gulf-side community to a bloated, over-populated megalopolis we were ready for a change and anxious to leave the heat, humidity, hurricanes, and hectic lifestyle in our rear view mirror.
We had vacationed here in western North Carolina for years, mainly in the Franklin and Cashiers area. But when it came time to choose a community where we could put down new roots, it was Brevard.
Brevard, NC is everything you want in a … (0 comments)

western north carolina: Beer - One more reason to love western North Carolina - 07/22/16 04:40 AM

Up until a few years ago most blog posts about this area of western North Carolina were all about the waterfalls, the fantastic mountain scenery, the amazing array of outdoor activities, mountain biking, and the life style.  Those things are all still big drawing cards for Asheville, Brevard, Hendersonville, and the surrounding areas, but we have a new reason to love this area. Beer!  From the big names like Sierra Nevada to the small local microbreweries, beer is a big deal around here. So big that Asheville has been dubbed Beer City with more breweries per capita than any city in the US. And … (2 comments)

western north carolina: Vanished. Lost without a trace. - 05/20/16 10:42 PM
Tuesday May 10, 2016 - 4:45 pm.
It started like any other afternoon with a game of ball in the side yard.  Our two little dogs, Sunny and Boo chased the tennis balls, Ace ran big circles around us barking at who knows what. We had played this game hundreds of times with Ace eventually loping into the woods to chase a squirrel. Sometimes he would go deep into the woods to the creek and you could hear his bark echo back. Other times, he’d pop out up by the road.  Whatever route he took, rarely was he gone more than … (1 comments)

western north carolina: April real estate news for western North Carolina - 05/05/16 05:17 AM
The news this month is all about the Brevard/Pisgah Forest market and the current "buying" season. One of the indicators that we consider when we talk about how the market is doing is how long it takes for homes to sell. You'll see that number indicated in listings as CDOM (cumulative days on market). The contrast between this year and last year is startling.  In the Brevard/Pisgah Forest area last April, the average days on market was 386.  April this year, that number dropped dramatically to 170.  We are seeing the most activity in that ever-popular price range $150,000 to $250,000 … (2 comments)

western north carolina: A Cashiers NC Chocolate Cook Off? I'm in! - 01/15/13 03:47 AM
I am a admitted chocoholic. Always have been, always will be. My personal choice has always been dark chocolate. Even as a kid I remember I'd take a hunk of dark semi sweet chocolate over milk chocolate any day of the week. Nowawdays, they tell us that a bit of dark chocolate everyday is good for us. Something about antioxidants. I don't know about that. I just eat because a bite of a really good, rich, dark chocolate and it's practically a religious experience. This past Christmas my son gave me a bar of dark chocolaty goodness that had lemon and … (3 comments)

western north carolina: A clear cut case of underestimating..... - 06/09/11 12:58 PM
When you've been in the real estate business for more than a day, you've probably accumulated various lists with the names and addresses of people you know, people you've done business with, people you'd like to do business with, vendors.....and on and on and on. Then there are all the places that you market yourself and your properties like your website, various posting sites, email signatures, magazine websites, and all the way back to the basic things like business cards and yard signs.
If you really want to get an idea of how many places your name and "branding" shows up, … (15 comments)

western north carolina: Brevard NC Ranks Among Top US Cities For Raising "Outdoor Kids" - 09/03/09 12:03 AM
According to the August 2009 Backpacker Magazine, there's one more reason why Brevard, North Carolina is a great place to call home. The magazine, along with The Outdoor Foundation, have identified America's top 25 cities to beat what they call "nature deficit disorder" and Brevard ranks among the top 25 in a list that includes Bozeman, Montana; Boulder, Colorado; Burlington, Vermont and others.
To come up with this list, they examined 38 seperate metrics, including non-outdoor factors such as unemployment, obestity rates, and others. The formula gave greatest consideration, though, to climate and trail-specific data. Some of the key sources for … (1 comments)

western north carolina: Things to do in Brevard, NC - 04/23/09 12:34 PM
Funny how life in the mountains resembles nature. During the winter months, there are few visitors, some business put the "Closed" sign out, and for the most part, people hibernate. But by April, everything comes alive. The flowers and trees start blooming, visitors start to return, and life in general returns to a more normal pace.
If you're in the Brevard, North Carolina area this spring, it's a great time for just about anything outdoors. Find a river, and you'll likely see people fly fishing. And with the day time temps hovering around 70, it's a wonderful time of year to … (2 comments)

western north carolina: Get to know Brevard, NC - 01/03/09 08:48 AM
If you're tired of big cities and all the hassles that go with living in an overpopulated, overdeveloped area, Brevard, North Carolina is the small town that you're looking for. Like many people, we discovered Brevard after vacationing in the area for over 20 years. When we decided to finally, and happily, leave Florida and move to Brevard we knew we were really home.
When people stop in our office and talk about relocating to Brevard, one of the first things they comment about is how friendly the people are around here. Sure, it sounds like a cliche, but it's true. … (3 comments)

western north carolina: You know you live in the country when.... - 12/13/08 05:02 AM
So last night we went to a friend's house for a little holiday party. They live about an hour east of us in a golf course community. On this night, our drive home turned out to be yet another reminder of why we love living here.  We were only 5 minutes from our friends' home when we came around a turn and found ourselves face to face with a very large horse who was ambling down the middle of this dark country road. Being concerned for the safety of the horse, we stopped and put on our flashers. Normally, this road … (3 comments)

western north carolina: Fall is coming to the mountains - 09/08/08 06:23 AM
Everyone has their favorite time of year. For us, it's fall. Maybe it's the cooler, drier air. Or maybe it's the the way the summer haze gives way to crystal clear views of the mountains that are ablaze in yellow, red, orange, and gold. It could be the smell of wood burning in our fireplace or the feel of being cozy and warm in a butter soft sweater. It may even be the fact that it's the start of football season. More than likely, it's all of those things that makes me look forward to the coming of fall, even when … (2 comments)

western north carolina: He Never Had A Chance - 08/04/08 02:33 AM
Our otherwise lovely weekend here in the mountains was punctuated with sadness on Saturday morning. My husband Robert was in the backyard watering some plants when he discovered a motionless baby squirrel on the ground, curled up in the leaves. A gentle nudge elicited a slight movement as the furry little guy drew his body up tighter into a fetal like position. His fur was cold to the touch but I could see him drawing small breaths. A rescue mission kicked into gear. Robert found a small box and I found some rags. We picked the baby squirrel up gently and … (2 comments)
