costa mesa real estate: Costa Mesa History - Paularino Plugs Along - 07/08/08 06:28 PM
Paularino was another small town that was established within the limits of what is now Costa Mesa.  If the town still existed, it would be bordered by Newport Boulevard, Fairview, the 405 Freeway and the final boundary would be just south of Baker.  The town was established in 1886 by Elizabeth Berry.
In 1912, there was enough of a population in Paularino to warrant opening a school
The town never became more than a few farms, a railroad siding and a school  However, it never faded to obscurity; it simply became part of Costa Mesa as Costa Mesa spread to encompass many small towns.

costa mesa real estate: It's a Buyers' Market!! So, Why Are There So Many Multiple Offers? - 07/02/08 04:42 PM
The media has been reporting doom and gloom in the real estate market for months. Prices are down and keep falling.  Inventory is up and keeps growing.  It is obvious we're in a buyers' market, isn't it?
However, there is definitely something going on, especially in the well-priced properties.
I have been out showing homes to a client, who like many people, is looking for a great deal, and we've found a few.  The first one had been on the market for only a few days, and when we went to make an offer, we were told that there were nearly 20 … (14 comments)

costa mesa real estate: Costa Mesa History - Fairview Fails to Flourish - 06/30/08 07:57 PM
In 1887, banking on the continued demand for housing in Southern California, a group of business men bought over 1700 acres and started a town they named Fairview.
This town was part of what was once the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana.
Fairview's main street is now known as Harbor Boulevard, and the town itself was located near the modern day intersection of Harbor and Adams.
By the end of 1887, the city had many homes as well as a school, a hotel, a post office, a general store and a drug store.
1888 brought the railroad to town.  This along with … (0 comments)

costa mesa real estate: Marketing 101 - Leave 'em Wanting More or Oops I Meant to Hit Draft - 06/30/08 06:53 PM
Last week I was writing a blog post late in the evening. I decided I was too tired and planned to save it in draft mode and finish it later.
The next night, I returned to the post to finish it and was surprised to find 5 comments on a blog post that I hadn't posted.
I had written up the perfect teaser and then posted it out there leaving every one hanging.
What did I learn from this? Something I already knew, whether I realized it or not.
If you leave them wanting more, if you leave them hanging, they … (16 comments)

costa mesa real estate: Costa Mesa History - California 49ers and the Gold Rush and a Modern Day Cattle Drive - 06/19/08 11:15 AM
After only three years as a state, California experienced the beginning of its gold rush.
Although the California Gold Rush brought many people racing to Northern California in hopes of making a fortune by striking a gold mine, it had effects on Southern California as well.
The cattle that had previously been raised in Southern California mostly for leather hides to create clothing and shoes were suddenly more in demand for their meat by those who came to Northern California in search of their dreams.
As a result, the vaqueros who raised their cattle in Costa Mesa began cattle drives to … (32 comments)

costa mesa real estate: Costa Mesa History - Mexican Independence - 06/15/08 07:00 PM
When Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821, the territory which is now the State of California became a part of Mexico.
During this time, many more settlers came to the Costa Mesa area and established more ranchos with large herds of cattle on the grassy plains that existed back then.
After two years of war between the United States and Mexico, Mexico was defeated in 1848, and California became part of the United States.
In 1850, California became the 31st state.  In less than thirty years, the spot that would one day become Costa Mesa had belonged to Spain, Mexico … (0 comments)

costa mesa real estate: Somebody Needs to Get Real About this Price!!! - Educating Your Sellers (and Buyers) Really Works! - 06/11/08 07:27 AM
I received an e-mail from a seller today.  She isn't ready to sell, but she does want to know what is going on with values. So, I've been keeping her updated on the current market and what's for sale and selling in her neighborhood.
She must have been paying attention because today she sent me an e-mail, and all it said was "Somebody needs to get REAL about this price!!!!!"

The listing price is more than 16% higher than the last sold in the complex for a similarly sized unit.  That sale was more than six months ago, and we're in a … (8 comments)
