The antidote to overwhelm is to simplify. This means you need to cut back, slow down, eliminate, and outsource. "Simplify" means you need to do less. There are several things to know about overwhelm: 1) By staying busy, you have lost control over your life. You have become addicted, if you will, to being busy. There are several reasons for this. For one, your mind or ego needs something to do so it creates stuff or situations to keep in busy. You have twenty things you must get done this week and today you get done two. Were you productive? Too often, we have completely unrealistic expectations for how much we can actually get done in the time we have available. So we think you can get it all done, when in fact, it is an impossibility to do so. You get done two things. How much time and effort was spent on thinking about the OTHER things on your list and how you should be doing something else? Life has a way of slamming doors in our face - layoffs, not getting the prospect, not making the sale, being turned down by a potential mate. Divorce. Illness. We look at these things as failures or losses. But what if they're not? What if instead it's a way to show us what path we should NOT go? If life is like a maze, then these "doors" that close on us are turns that are not going to get us to where we want to go - where we are supposed to go; the doors close because that's not the best place (3 comments)
