On Monday, February 14, David H Stevens the Assistant Secretary of Housing & Federal Housing Commissioner for US Department of Housing and Urban Development announced an increase in FHA Mortgage Insurance Premium of .25% per year. Mr. Stevens recommended this increase to maintain the capital reserve at 2% and hopes that congress doesn't have to get involved.

The mortgage insurance tax-deductibility law has been extended through 2011! Here's how it works: Qualified borrowers with adjusted gross incomes up to $100,000 may be able to deduct 100% of their 2011 premiums on their federal tax returns. Deductions are phased out in 10% increments for borrowers with adjusted gross incomes between $100,000 and $109,000. The legislation is effective for borrower-paid premiums allocable to mortgage insurance certificates issued in 2007-2011.
