I never get tired of photographing Mt. Hood in all its grandeur. Each time of year and from different views, it offers something fresh and always gorgeous. I like this photo because it also shows grape vines and orchards which are just so typical of the Hood River Valley and all it has to offer. This is just off Hwy. 35, about five miles south of the town of Hood River.

When you were little, didn't you love to dig in the sand, build and bury things, playing away a summer day at the beach? Here in the Hood River Valley, our beach is on the Columbia River, Hood River's Waterfront Park to be exact, but it's the perfect place to spend a hot day. Today's 100 degree temp (not real common in these parts!) simply called us to the river. This could have been me 30 some odd years ago.

We head down to Waterfront Park in the town of Hood River quite often during the summer for a quick dip in the Columbia River. Then the kids dry off on the play equipment or climbing wall before heading home. This is one of the pieces of play equipment at the park, I guess a new version of the merry-go-rounds so popular on playgrounds when I grew up. I don't know the kids playing on it here, but they were so very determined to master the strange shape and motion.

As soon as the weather forecast called for 95 degree+ temps today, we knew it was the perfect day to head to a mountain lake. We tried Lawrence Lake, a man made resevoir about five miles south of the town of Parkdale, mostly known for its hiking and fly fishing. It was a perfect day and the perfect place for the kids to splash away the afternoon. What a gorgeous setting: impossibly green water, surrounded by towering pine covered slopes. This is my great neice Malan, enjoying her cake at her first birthday party last weekend. I love the shot because it is so full of young wonderment and the abandon of youth. She has no problem diving right in, enjoying something new, forgetting anyone was even watching her.
