Lolla Lee Lou and her sister, Cindy Lou Who, are the sweetest little babies you'll ever find. The vet is guessing they're around seven weeks old and they are just tiny at less than four pounds each. They seem to be chihuahua, dachshund mix and are absolutely beautiful. These poor little girls were found abandoned in front of a business in weather far too cold for them, leaving them scared and traumatized. Hood River Valley Youth Basketball Season Underway
Girls and Boys, 3rd through 6th grade basketball league play officially started yesterday with the league's first game of the season. The opener was delayed by a week due to inclement weather and massive power outages last week. The teams began practicing the first week of January, although a week and a half of practices were cancelled due to the weather, too. But things are back on track.

Did I mention it's been a little icy around here lately? We've been experiencing a very unique and fun (sense the sarcasm) natural phenomenon... freezing rain. It's rain, but instantly freezes to whatever it falls on. Our back deck barbeque grill is an excellent example of the result. Actually, we have icicles on everything, but this struck me as especially funny.

I'm always on the lookout for a great rainbow to photograph. With the extremely icy, rainy and snowy weather we've had lately, this rainbow was an especially welcome sight. Of course, if it really signified the end of the rain, it would be even better, but we'll take what we can get. This is Waterfront Park's rock wall in Hood River, Oregon and you can just see the Columbia River in the background.

We're still digging out from Ice Storm 2012 and I'm pretty sick of snow and ice and cold. So for today's photo, I took a look through some warmer times and chose this one of our sons, Sam and Ben, playing in the waves at Big Beach on Maui, Hawaii. I feel warmer and more cheerful just looking at it.

Noche is an adorable, 4 1/2 year old Lhasa Apso boy. This guy is Mr. Social Butterfly, loves to make new friends and seems to adore every dog, cat or person he meets... even kids. He is endlessly happy and loves to play. He is especially fond of his toys and treats and is always up for a good walk. He is crate trained although he also tends to hide his toys and treats in there.

Even devestating ice storms have their silver lining, in this case the almost surreal vistas left in their wake. Hood River and Parkdale, Oregon, have experienced freezing rain for two straight days... as the rain falls, it freezes almost instantly to whatever it lands on, encasing everything in thick, but pretty ice. The flip side is innumerable broken trees and powerlines all over the valley and the weather forecast shows no break in the fun.

The power's finally back on and the house is warming up after reaching 48 degrees overnight. The Columbia River Gorge, or more specifically, the towns of Hood River and Parkdale, have been hit with lovely freezing rain after three feet of snow in the days before that. The result is literally dozens of downed power lines, broken trees and blocked roads, like nothing we've seen in the 4 1/2 years we've lived here. This is our Australian shepard, Chance, who we rescued from a shelter five years ago. We were hit with a huge snow storm the last couple days and all three of our big dogs can't seem to get enough of the snow, even when they are covered in it! The chihuahua, not so much. Chance was just hanging out as our family worked to dig our way out of 3+ feet of snow.

We had aleady guessed, well before the school district made the official call this morning, that it would be a snow day today. We already had two feet of snow over the last couple days, but then we got 18 additional inches just over night last night, making digging out of our own driveway interesting, what alone braving the roads.

In our household, you can tell what time of year it is by what sport our boys are playing and we are very pleased with the variety and quality of choices available to us here in the Hood River Valley.
