Spring mornings just don't get better than this! Well worth waiting for. I so needed a morning like today: Flawless blue skies, a shining mountain, the smell of fresh cut grass for the first time in five months, flip flops on the feet and dozens of Little Leaguers all pitching in to clean up their ball field in time for games to begin on Monday. Our son, Ben, plays on the Parkdale Little League Majors team, who was joined by the minors, coach pitch and t-ball teams to rake, sweep, (8 comments)
In small towns, volunteer fire departments are the backbone of the community. The Parkdale Volunteer Fire Department in Parkdale, Oregon is made up of 33 volunteer members and two paid personnel, providing fire protection to over 5,200 citizens. These volunteers are guys from all walks of life, in other careers, who are constantly on call to put their lives on the line at a moment's notice. It takes a lot to run a volunteer department, too. These are the horses that live across the street from our house in Parkdale, Oregon. They were pretty wet and sleepy still as I took their picture early this morning. Maybe it's just me, but they seemed to be thinking "What are you lookin' at?" (maybe with a Brooklyn accent?).
Mel shot this photo of our boys, Sam and Ben, from behind the Tamanawas Waterfall on Mt. Hood, about 25 miles from our house in Parkdale, Oregon. The two mile, moderately easy hike into the waterfall is one of our favorite hikes in the region with quite the reward for the trouble... the waterfall.
Mel took this lovely photo of Mt. Hood covered with winter snow and framed by a delicate branch. Neither of us ever seem to tire of photographing our volcano which seems so different in every season and from so many varying angles. He took this photo just a couple miles from our house in Parkdale, Oregon, but zoomed in on the mountain.
This is the view of Mt. Hood this morning, about 1/2 mile from our house in Parkdale, Oregon. I took this at about 8 a.m. this morning. on the way to our son, Ben's, basketball game. Today promises to be sunny and gorgeous. Is it any wonder why we love living here?

The view from our front porch:
