tamanawas falls: Taking a Hike for National Dog Day - 08/26/16 02:59 PM
Taking a Hike for National Dog Day
Today is National Dog Day.  We took Chance, our Australian Shepherd on a hike to Tamanawas Falls this morning.  Tamanawas Falls is approximately 40 feet wide with a drop of approximately 100 feet. My son Ben, has taken this hike almost every year towards the end of summer, just before the start of the next school year.  Chance has led the way each time.

It was a great day for a hike in the Mt Hood National Forest.  The trailhead is approximately 30 miles south of Hood River, OR via Highway 35.

Tamanawas! Paradise Found, Right on Mt. Hood

Mel and our boys made their annual trip to Tamanawas Falls yesterday. This is one of those absolute must sees if you're in the area... the trail is the true essence and glory of Oregon, much as it must have first appeared to explorers more than a hundred years ago. It's located just off Highway 35, about 40 miles south of Hood River, just 5 miles north of Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort.
It's two miles, each way, but it's rated as "easy", as the incline is not too steep and the trail is … (6 comments)

Wordless Wednesday - The Intrepid Explorers
These are our sons, Ben and Sam, while hiking the Tamanawas Falls Trail on the east side of Mt. Hood. Boys will be boys... obviously, they didn't merely stick to the trail, but instead they climbed up massive boulders left by an ancient rock slide.

This Is It! The Most Beautiful Spot In The USA!  Part 2
Yesterday I posted Part 1 of Mel's hike with our boys on the Tamanawas Falls Trail on Monday. The trail is located just off Highway 35, 40 miles south of Hood river and five miles north of Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort. The trail follows the east fork of the Hood River, is 2 miles each way and is rated as "easy", as the trail isn't steep and is fairly smooth.
After almost two miles, they finally caught sight of the falls...

Getting closer...

Even closer, it's kinda … (0 comments)
