It's funny how you can pass great spots along a highway without even knowing they are there. I stopped to take a photo of Dog Creek last weekend as I drove along Highway 14 between the towns of White Salmon and Stevenson, Washington. Along that stretch of the highway, the cliffs are pretty much constant, but all of a sudden here's an unexpected crack with a pretty little waterfall.
White Salmon is a small town in Washington, just across the Hood River bridge, perched on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River. I took this photo of main street, showing the beautiful and charming City Hall Building. I love it's apparent German influence on the architecture... seems so fitting for a small, mountain town.
I've driven by this home many times and finally stopped to take a photo of it. I find it to be simply stunning. It just screams old world charm and looks so cozily tucked into a massive grove of trees. I would have loved to photograph the inside, but didn't want to be intrusive. There was a lady, maybe in her 80s, cleaning the pool to the far left of the house.
