columbus: Steering via schools - 01/27/08 02:57 AM
Why do agents from outside an area answer questions? This example is from Trulia Voices.  The same thing happens on the ActiveRain site, I understand. Answering out of area questions for consumers. Why?
Trulia Voices Question and Answer:
"Q. Safe/Not Safe?Company I work for is relocating to Easton in Fall of 08. I'm window shopping for a home in the area bordered by 270 / Agler Road / Sunbury / and McCutcheon. Don't plan to buy till Fall/Winter 08. EVERYONE is telling me that this is not a safe neighborhood. I've tried to find the truth or falsehood of this by looking … (45 comments)

columbus: What's Open Sunday in Central Ohio? - 01/25/08 12:59 AM
What's Open Sunday in Columbus?
Best Open House List in Central Ohio
OK maybe I am a bit biased about the open house list on our Central Ohio Real Living website. I've blogged calling it the best open house list in Central Ohio on both of my other blogs, ColumbusBestBlog.com and Discover Columbus (which used to be called Columbus Best Blog) the best thing is kind of habit.
The link above is to the Real Living HER open house site through my Real Living site, MaureenMcCabe.com
Today, Friday January 25, 2008 the Real Living HER open house list says:
"There are 280 … (3 comments)

columbus: "Free Home Inspection" - 11/06/07 09:46 PM
Gosh I could not help but notice an ad on ActiveRain for  "Free Home Inspection" and it is in Central Ohio.  I did not recognize the logo or company name though.
Home inspectors can you afford to do home inspections for free? How? BOGO? Buy One Get One Free? Other inspectors (outside Central Ohio) is your market that competitive?

columbus: Powell Property Participates in the National Open House Sunday - 10/30/07 06:13 AM
And you thought Sunday November 4, 2007 was just the day to fall back...  It's National Open House Sunday!
Nationwide:

Link to home removed as I am no longer marketing his home.
"4 days, 12 hours, 11 minutes, and 27 seconds. left"
National Open House Sunday... so far my Powell Open House is the only one in Central Ohio on the Open House list for Central Ohio... but David Childress of Real Living Realty One in Akron has an Open House on the first National Open house list too...

columbus: If Spiderman relocated to Columbus - 10/22/07 11:48 AM
Would Spiderman ever relocate to Columbus? Probably not but if Goran Utvic can speculate about Spidey moving to Chicago from New York... Goran wrote:  "If Spiderman decided that he no longer wanted to websling from the Empire State Building..."  I can wonder about Spiderman relocating to Columbus.
I wrote about it on ColumbusBestBlog.com Spidey would of course live in downtown Columbus so he could hang out at  Leveque Tower, the Art Deco "skyscraper" built in 1927.  The second tallest building in Columbus has the right  feel for the cartoon character.  I believe it is 47 stories tall.
If I can speculate about Spiderman moving to Central Ohio I can take it further … (4 comments)

columbus: Top 10 Riskiest Housing Markets Summer 2007 - 06/22/07 01:58 AM

Columbus Ohio is NOT on the list of the Top 10 Riskiest US Housing Markets on The Real Estate Bloggers this summer.  Columbus Ohio is on the safe list for the markets with the lowest mortgage risks, again.
Visit The Real Estate Bloggers for more information about the PMI analysis of US metropolitan regions and the list of highest risk for mortgage to see where your city ends up if you are not in Columbus Ohio, or the other nine on the list below from the Real Estate Bloggers.  Columbus is in good company, Cinci, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis as well as a number of Texas … (17 comments)

columbus: "what's your bikini?" - 06/20/07 12:23 AM
Tomorrow June 21 is the real, real beginning of summer, according to the calendar...  Are you ready for summer?  The 4th of July is right around the corner!
The 4th of July in Columbus is Red, White and Boom, the Doodah Parade....
"What's your bikini?"  from Yoplait is about goals, dieting and more.   Oprah's diet and exercise guru Bob Greene is involved now in Yoplait's campaign.  Your bikini may not actually be a bikini? I know mine's not.  Personally some of us are long past bikini.
I put one of my blogs on a diet a few weeks ago. No food blogging for Discover Columbus for … (11 comments)

columbus: On the market for a year with NO showings. What would you do? - 06/19/07 12:54 AM
Real estate is so local. I had a call  from a consumer Monday who has a home that has been on the market for a year.   He is in a small town, or probably out of town as the home is historic (built in the 1800's), it is huge and on acreage.  There's 'gotta be' great stories about the home. Who built it, who owned it...
He found me "on the internet"  I think his question was about the market in Ohio but I told him he was listed in the wrong MLS.
The house is outside of my market area. I knew the bigger, little town when … (21 comments)

columbus: "What Silicon Valley Could Learn from Columbus Ohio" - 06/05/07 03:20 AM
"What Silicon Valley Could Learn from Columbus, Ohio" sure has a nice ring to it doesn't it?
The message to the start ups in Silicon Valley?  "Your Customer Lives in Columbus, Ohio" according to Wil Shroter of "Go Big" on his blog last week.
Columbus is the world.... I was more thrilled with someone mentioning Columbus Ohio until I realized the entrepenuer blogger is from Columbus Ohio..... The blogger whose blog I caught the story that Columbus is the world is in Central Japan, though and Myspace is "Mixi" in Japan!
Maybe my survey is flawed.  Maybe surveying people on the internet about whether they use Craigslist is … (0 comments)

columbus: Help my blog is not ready for bikini season - 05/18/07 11:03 AM
My "other" blog has been bloated with food blogging for months.
It was so easy.
It was so satisfying.
It was so comforting.
There have been signs of problems for months but I've ignored them.
A bunch of the readers who search and end up on my blog have been coming from food searches.  We have legitimate food bloggers in Columbus... why am I blogging about food?  I have great Columbus foodie blogs on my blogroll on Discover Columbus.
Discover Columbus is so bloated with blog posts about food I put it on a diet today.   Discover Columbus is fasting

columbus: Columbus Clippers - 05/06/07 09:44 PM

Columbus Ohio is a sports town.
Triple AAA baseball may not be on the top of the list for many in Central Ohio... eclipsed by OSU Buckeye Football, the Columbus Crew soccer and even Blue Jackets hockey in many circles.
Citysearch named Columbus Clippers baseball  "One of Columbus' Best" and says:
"Nominated for Best Family Fun because a quality attraction that's suitable for all ages and easily affordable covers all the bases. "
A Columbus Clippers game is family fun according to the Citysearch review written by by John Oklok. They are different Clippers this season but sports fans in Columbus know that. The Columbus Clippers were a New York Yankees … (2 comments)

columbus: The old gray box just ain't what it used to be... - 01/24/07 12:39 AM
We are in the midst of a keybox exchange in the Columbus area.  The old gray Supra keyboxes many of us in the Columbus Board of REALTORS® have used are being swapped out for new blue keyboxes. Many newer agents had only blue keyboxes... some REALTORS® have had a mixture of boxes.  I had only old gray keyboxes.
My personal favorite was my old gray keybox that was damaged when my sellers tried to saw into it to get into their house.  They lost their house keys.. they actually thought their house keys were stolen.  Long story... the keybox was impenetrable!!  It still worked...usually.
The sellers said they had the police try … (17 comments)

columbus: Columbus Blogroll - non real estate blogs - 01/06/07 10:00 PM

Since real estate is local, I have a local blogroll on my two other blogs. Columbus Ohio is not be the epicenter of real estate blogging, according to Brian Brady, Phoenix is.
One of the recommendations from Brian's  Arizona Real Estate Roundtable  of bloggers was:
"The Solution; linking to local blogs for your "farm" area.  Note that we concluded you should link to local blogs, NOT local real estate blogs."

Below is the local blogroll from Discover Columbus (the original Columbus Best Blog.)

columbus: Winter Solstice - 12/20/06 04:11 PM
It's about time.
Winter arrives today at 7:22 P.M.in Columbus Ohio.   The Winter Solstice listing in Wikipedia confused me. It says the 2006 Winter Solstice is December 22, 2006.  I went back to check, 0:22 A.M on December 22, 2006 UTC or GMT.
"UTC is Coordinated Universal Time, GMT is Greenwich Mean Time." according to the site with the time converter above.
It's about space.  Today is the shortest day of the year... and the longest night of the year.
Today is National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day,  "Sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Health Care for the … (7 comments)

columbus: Worthington Area Market Report - 12/19/06 10:43 AM
There are areas of the City of Columbus which are in school districts other than the City of Columbus School district. Parts of northwest / north Columbus are in the Worthington School District.  For example some neighborhoods off Smoky Row Rd, the Hard Road area and off Flint and Park Roads are in the City of Columbus but the Worthington school district.
The problem with the TrendGraphix Market Reports I create for my blogs is that they are only available for an MLS area.  The problem with our MLS areas are they've been around a long time and they really don't make a lot of sense. The good news is I believe we will be getting away … (4 comments)

columbus: Dublin Area Market Report - 12/19/06 09:38 AM
There are areas of the City of Columbus which are in school districts that are not the City of Columbus School district. Parts of northwest Columbus are in the Dublin City School district.  For example some neighborhoods off Sawmill Rd and off Frantz Road.
The problem with the TrendGraphix Market Reports I create for my blogs is that they are only available for an MLS area.  The problem with our MLS areas are they've been around a long time and they really don't make a lot of sense. The good news is I believe we will be getting away from MLS areas because of mapping shortly.  Yahoo!
