ohio: Ohio Tops for Trees - 03/08/07 12:47 PM
Ohio leads the country in tree planting.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer  "Ohio, for the 26th year, has more Tree City USA communities - 249 - than any other state. Ohioans last year planted more than 35,000 trees and spent more than $36 million on urban forestry efforts."
A list of the 249 Ohio cities that are Tree City USA communities is available on the Arbor Day Foundation website.  As well as Tree City USA commuities throughout the country.
Arbor Day in Ohio is April 27, 2007.   Arbor Day ideas from the Ohio Division of Natural Resouces Division of Forestry includes "plant a tree"  of course.

ohio: Ohio is the heart of it all - 02/14/07 12:40 AM
"Ohio is the heart of it all" is an old slogan for Ohio tourism / commerc... we have moved on from that slogan and I really can't tell you what the current Ohio slogan is.
Michigan folk think their state is shaped like a mitten... we don't really think our state is heart shaped... well maybe a little...It's more about where Ohio is in the United States.
In 'SIX THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT: OHIO' by Frank Smith" on Black Table:
"If Ohio is the heart of it all where is the brain?"
"-- state that boasts itself as the Heart of It All. And … (2 comments)

ohio: Groundhogs are local - 02/01/07 02:37 AM
OK tomorrow is Groundhogs Day... or is it Ground Hogs Day?  I remember this spelling question from last year... I think my 2006 story says "Ground Hog" and I went with "Groundhog " in 2007.  What's a blogger to do? Maybe the new Active Rain spell checker will help with that dilemma.
Active Rain will accept both which leads me to believe it should be spelled groundhog.
Lisa Dunn and Fred Pickard have both covered Groundhogs Day on Active Rain....
Fred's right there in PA with the best known groundhog and Lisa tied it into real estate.  Is our spring season going … (2 comments)

ohio: Franklin County Market Report - December 2006 - 01/15/07 07:22 AM

Inventory dropped in Franklin County in December 2006. As usual some people took their home off the market over the holidays, but there is still more inventory than a year earlier.  Franklin County sales were down overall in December from November 2006 and from December sales of a year earlier, but not as much as in some Central Ohio counties.  The Franklin County properties represented in the graph and the table above are all single family, townhouse and condominium listings and sales in Franklin County.   The average days on market was 18 days longer in December 2006 than a year earlier and up five … (0 comments)

There was less inventory on the market in Central Ohio over the holidays because homes taken off the market. That happens most years.  December sales were down from November 2006 and a year earlier.  This was not true in all Central Ohio markets. The properties represented in the graph and table are single … (0 comments)

ohio: 5 Reasons to Buy Columbus Real Estate in 2007 - 12/30/06 09:01 PM

At the end of 2006 interest rates are historically low across the country. That's good news to buyers everywhere.  If you listen to the national news about buying now you may not get the whole story though.  "Real estate is local" and the good news for Columbus and Central Ohio is that buying real estate in Columbus now is a good thing.

ohio: Winter Solstice - 12/20/06 04:11 PM
It's about time.
Winter arrives today at 7:22 P.M.in Columbus Ohio.   The Winter Solstice listing in Wikipedia confused me. It says the 2006 Winter Solstice is December 22, 2006.  I went back to check, 0:22 A.M on December 22, 2006 UTC or GMT.
"UTC is Coordinated Universal Time, GMT is Greenwich Mean Time." according to the site with the time converter above.
It's about space.  Today is the shortest day of the year... and the longest night of the year.

ohio: Worthington Area Market Report - 12/19/06 10:43 AM
There are areas of the City of Columbus which are in school districts other than the City of Columbus School district. Parts of northwest / north Columbus are in the Worthington School District.  For example some neighborhoods off Smoky Row Rd, the Hard Road area and off Flint and Park Roads are in the City of Columbus but the Worthington school district.
The problem with the TrendGraphix Market Reports I create for my blogs is that they are only available for an MLS area.  The problem with our MLS areas are they've been around a long time and they really don't make a lot of sense. The good news is I believe we will be getting away … (4 comments)
