Worthington Ohio was a planned community.
The Ohio Historical Marker at 777 High Street in Worthington (the Griswold Center) says:
" Worthington A Planned Community
Based on a plan adopted by Scioto Company proprietors before their arrival in Ohio, Worthington was established following the New England model. The town formed a grid patter around a village green. Settlers were required to own at least one town lot and a rural tract for farming. Some setters were designated to operate the first tavern and sawmill. I must admit I watched the parade from a front lawn of a house in the Village of Riverlea. Riverlea is surrounded by Worthington and the Olentangy river.
Bands from both Worthington Kilbourne and Thomas Worthington as well as the OSU Alumni Band and a bagpipe band were in the parade this year. There were a number of Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, a swim club, pom pom girls and baton twirlers from Central Ohio in the parade.
