animal rescue: Don't Be Sucked In By The HSUS - Support Your Local Animal Shelter - 04/01/12 04:28 AM
With the economy in trouble and Americans having fewer "disposable" dollars, local animal rescue groups are more strapped for cash than ever. They don't have mega-millions to go on TV and ask for donations, but must rely on people in their own communities to support their work.
In many, if not most cases, the workers are all volunteers - and they often contribute money as well as time.
Yes, your $19 per month can do far more good for animals at a local rescue than it can by paying executives at HSUS - or PETA. That's another one that drains money … (6 comments)

animal rescue: A Visit to Cocolalla Creek Rescue Ranch - 05/21/11 07:40 PM
The fate of dogs and cats in this economy is something we read about in the news every now and then. People lose their homes and have to move to rental units that don't allow pets or units that require huge deposits for pets - so they simply walk away and leave them behind.
I can't imagine ever leaving one of my critters to an uncertain future, but I guess I feel more strongly about my animals than a lot of people do.
The question of "Why they don't at least take them to a rescue group" is met … (6 comments)

animal rescue: Why Did You Leave Me Behind? - 04/16/11 12:00 PM

Shiela says nothing angers her more than finding an animal abandoned by its family. I agree - that and torturing them both make me want to do bodily harm to some human.

These animals are so loyal to us - they don't deserve the … (12 comments)

animal rescue: Time to Help The Critters Once Again - 01/17/11 07:38 PM
The Animal Rescue Site didn't waste much time between contests this time! A new one is underway, and we all have the opportunity to vote once a day for our favorite animal rescue organization. If we have favorites in different states, we can alternate our votes between them.
Last time around my votes - and possibly yours - helped Conrad Strays in Middleton, Idaho win $1,000 to help care for rescued cats. They're getting my votes again this time, because I know how hard Teresa Conrad works to raise the funds to operate her no-kill rescue.
So, go to the … (2 comments)

animal rescue: Paying it Forward for the Kitties - 11/10/10 06:54 PM
Do you know about the Petsmart Shelter Challenge?
Every few months they hold a contest to see what shelter can get the most votes over a period of time. The one with the most votes overall gets a large prize, and the one with the most votes in each state wins $1,000.
This small cat rescue really needs our help...
Today I communicated with a lady named Teresa Conrad, who runs a Cat rescue called Conrad Strays down in Middleton, Idaho. She's pretty much a one-woman operation, with a few foster families who help care for some of the cats … (5 comments)
