grammar errors: A Grammar Pet Peeve: "Shop Local" - 06/03/16 01:51 AM
Do you have a grammar pet peeve? I have several, but one that keeps jumping out at me is "Shop Local." That's because it's plastered all over town and in the local newspaper. No one can escape it, and for me, reading it is like hearing fingernails on a blackboard. 
Yesterday I decided to do some research and see if there was some way to convince myself that it was correct. 
The word "local" is an adjective and the verb "shop" calls for an adverb, so it's definitely incorrect, but... was there some way to turn "local" into something besides an adjective in this case?

Our local weekly newspaper arrived today, and had me gnashing my teeth.
It seems to me that the people who employ her should insist that she take some grammar lessons - or get her a proofreader.
The top news story of the week was about break-ins. The Senior Center / Food Bank here in Priest River, a Priest River quick stop, and the Food Bank in Oldtown were all burgalirized and vandalized the second week in May.

grammar errors: Another Trick for Better Writing - 01/12/12 05:53 PM
Proper Grammar isn't THAT critical in marketing copy, but... Readability is.
By now you know that following instructions from your high school English teacher will cause you to write dry, dull, uninspiring copy. Being "too proper" just makes your words sound stiff.
At the same time, being too casual makes you sound a little demented. And I HAVE seen it done. In fact, I've received emails with a subject line that went something like: "YO! Man! You Gotta Dig This!"
Uh - no, I don't gotta.
