After a heavy snowfall in early November, we’ve been blessed with friendlier weather – until night before last. Then the snow started coming fast, and it kept it up until early this morning.
Yesterday my satellite kept filling with snow, shutting down the Internet. Then, in early afternoon the power went out. That lasted for about an hour, then it came back on and I breathed a sigh of relief.

satellite internet service: If you have satellite Internet - beware!

If you have satellite Internet, you know you have so many megabytes of data each month. If you go over, your account is "throttled" until you purchase more.
A little over a month ago I was going along with more than half of my data unused, and it was only 4 days until it reset.
That's why I was shocked the next day when the Internet quit working. I checked and sure enough, it was throttled. Something had used more than 6 megs of data in a day. It had even used some of the "bonus" data (2 a.m. to 6 a.m. or … (16 comments)

satellite internet service: I've Never Been One to Scream "No Fair" But Darn!

Over the last week or so I've gotten big full color postcards from both Wild Blue and Hughes Net.
They're telling me all about the U.S. Recovery Act and how it's bringing low-cost, high-speed Internet to rural areas. For only $39.95 per month - forever - I can have high speed Internet courtesy of the government.
There's no activation fee, no monthly equipment lease fee, no installation fee.
That sounds pretty good, considering that I'm paying About $77 per month right now.
