thankfulness: Do you have a bucket list? - 12/02/17 12:05 PM
Do you have a bucket list?
I’ve never liked that term nor understood where it came from. A bucket list?
To me a bucket is something you use to feed or water the horse, or use to hold sudsy hot water for scrubbing. Nevertheless, I do understand the meaning, so – onward.
If you do have a bucket list, it reminds you of all the things you want to do in this lifetime that you haven’t yet done. If the list is long, I expect it could be pretty discouraging. You might feel that you have no chance of getting through … (40 comments)

thankfulness: Black Friday – feeling thankful to stay home and get back to work - 11/24/17 12:36 PM
It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and all through my email… are Black Friday sales!
There’s not a thing on any of those sales that I want to buy, so I’ve been busy deleting. I also have no desire to go fight the crowds at any of the stores.
Meanwhile, I’m feeling thankful – for the fact that the Thanksgiving dinner is finished, the dishes are done, the big pots and pans are put away, and now I can get back to "normal."
Yesterday was good – but a LOT of work.
While I had good intentions of writing something for the Thankfulness contest every day, … (5 comments)

thankfulness: Thankful for my ancestry - 11/19/17 03:05 PM
I’m Thankful for / to my ancestors
To go back to the beginning – I’m thankful that my Great-grandparents somehow both found themselves in Spokane, and that after their marriage they decided to homestead North of Priest River.
They had one daughter, my Grandmother Mabel, and she chose to marry a recent immigrant – a Swede who came here to work in the woods. They chose to remain here, and my Grandfather became a well-known contractor – responsible for construction of many of the buildings still standing down town.
Then, my Dad’s parents migrated here from North Dakota when he was a small child. … (4 comments)

thankfulness: So Thankful for all of my wonderful clients & customers - 11/18/17 07:51 PM
Thursday I wrote about being thankful for the Internet for giving me access to people who need me. Today I’m thinking about all the wonderful people who use my copywriting services and who purchase my prospecting / farming letters.
I am so fortunate to get acquainted with ambitious agents across the whole country – and a few in other countries.
It’s fun to hear about their markets and their lives. I write more agent bios than anything else, and it’s fascinating to learn about the different paths people have taken that led them into real estate sales as a career.
I have met a … (9 comments)

thankfulness: So thankful for the Internet... - 11/16/17 01:08 PM
Where would I be without this tool? I can’t even guess. I’m sure I wouldn’t be sitting in my warm basement, earning a living doing something I love.
I write for real estate professionals. How would I have found the ones who need me without the Internet? How would anyone know I could help them promote themselves? How would I have even known that real estate copywriting was a real job?
I wouldn’t have.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew there were people who wrote advertising, but I’m sure I didn’t know they were freelancers. I think I envisioned them all … (8 comments)

thankfulness: Feeling gratitude for my husband's kind heart - 11/15/17 11:33 PM
Some men want people to believe that they're mean and ornery. My husband is one of them. But those of us who know him know there's a darned soft heart underneath that crust.
Today was a good example.
The day started out sunny and warm, so when he fed Mr. Horse his breakfast, he removed the blanket he's been wearing for the past week.
For some reason (perhaps because he's 20+ years old?), this horse just doesn't grow a heavy winter coat. When the thermometer drops near freezing, or wind comes along with a cold rain, he shivers.
My husband has spent the entire summer and … (6 comments)

thankfulness: I'm so thankful for everyday tools... - 11/14/17 09:47 AM
Lately I’ve given a lot of thought to things we take for granted – among them the tools we use in everyday life.
In the overall scheme of things, all of these tools are new. When my great-grandparents homesteaded here in 1894, the things I use every day either didn’t exist or weren’t available to those who staked a claim and settled in the wilderness.
For starters, they had no electricity. My Grandmother used to tell of her Mother going out to look for the cow, who hadn’t come home for milking time. Grandmother was a small child, so her mother told her … (15 comments)

thankfulness: 12 Days of Thankfulness – I’m grateful for my home - 11/13/17 12:41 PM
When we built this house nearly 20 years ago we made a few mistakes – things I would change if we were to start over.
That said, it’s nearly perfect. I enjoy the floor plan and I love the big windows that look out over the meadow and let me see occasional glimpses of wildlife. We see plenty of deer, but if you happen to look up at the right moment, you just might see an elk or a moose – or a coyote or a bear.
In summer, I can look out and watch my horse grazing, or look off to the … (4 comments)

thankfulness: Thankful my son will be home for Thanksgiving - 11/12/17 10:37 AM
Thanks to Debbie Reynolds for issuing the 12 days of Thanksgiving Challenge. It’s going to be fun to read what our friends here on AR are most thankful for.
Since I begin and end each day going over things I’m thankful for, this is an easy one.
Right now I’m most thankful for the fact that it looks like my child will finally be finished with his project in California and be home for Thanksgiving.
He’s a General Foreman for a power line building company – and he’s been working down near the Mexican border since Springtime. In fact, he’s so close to the … (10 comments)

thankfulness: Exploding Glassware? - 08/23/13 03:06 PM
Have you ever experienced exploding glassware?
I hadn't, until today.
I was unloading the dishwasher and reached into the cupboard to move a glass to make room for more. As soon as I touched it, it blew up! The cupboard was at head height, so part of the glass hit my face (but no, didn't cut). More flew past me, about 6' out into the kitchen. Some flew off to the side, all over the kitchen counter. Some stayed in the cupboard.
In other words, there were chunks of glass everywhere.
It blew into (sort of) rectangular chunks rather than sharp … (6 comments)

thankfulness: Feeling thankful for all that I don't have... - 09/20/12 03:08 PM
Sometimes my city-dwelling son gives me a bad time about all the things we don't have here in our small North Idaho town.
For instance, we don't have:
A good steak house, pizza place or fast food restaurant Grocery stores or mini-marts that stay open all night A mall - or anywhere to purchase clothing, shoes, etc. A movie theater or concert hall Somewhere to go dancing Any kind of "higher education" A gym or fitness center Once in a while we think it would be nice to have some of those things, but most of the time, they aren't … (16 comments)
