careers: Are you at a crossroads in your professional life?

Lately I have heard more and more professionals tell me that they are unhappy with their current work situation and are ready to make a change. But during tough economic times, there is more than the usual amount of anxiety associated with charting a new course on the journey of life. And so many would-be career shifters choose to “wait it out” until the economy rebounds and the potential downside of such a move is less tenuous. As a result, the feeling of being trapped by uncontrollable external forces only leads to less satisfaction and more unhappiness. There is NEVER a (16 comments)
careers: Do you still have “zeal” for your job, or are you just going through the motions every day?

Our work should offer us more than mere financial compensation. Fulfillment results from a zeal for what you do and the satisfaction that results from a job well done. The real estate business has changed a lot over the last five years. In many aspects, it is an entirely different occupation that requires new skill sets and a lot more patience. And the truth is, a lot of agents no longer enjoy what they do and have an eye open for “something else.” But when the economy slows down, it’s hard enough to change jobs let alone embark on a new (21 comments)
I often ask myself this question. If time and money were of no consequence, what would be my “dream” job? Most people that know me would probably think that I would choose to be a professional photographer. And while it’s true that I love photographer and I am a serious amateur, I don’t really see that as a career choice for me. If fact, I feel that my true calling is to be a trial lawyer. Not a title-searching, paper-signing, ten closings a day real estate attorney but a real legal gladiator desperately fighting to save himself and his client (30 comments)
