chattahoochee bend state park: Springtime in Chattahoochee Bend State Park - 04/07/13 12:20 PM
Attired afresh in dainty lace
Perfumed with fragrant scented grace
That beckons suitors from abroad,
To kiss a nectar sweetened  frond!

It Springtime at Chattahoochee Bend State Park in CowetaCountyGeorgia.
The park is less than two years old, and it will take decades for the land to be returned to a primeval state. But there are hints of what is to come throughout the expanse of preserved acreage.
The various ecosystems of the park allow for a great diversity of flora and fauna. Whether one is exploring the bogs and wetlands in the … (5 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: The BEAR tree at Chattahoochee Bend State Park - 08/05/12 10:04 PM
Chattahoochee Bend State Park opened in July 2011 and is one of the largest state parks inGeorgia.
And in a little over a year all of the proposed trails have been blazed and now there are over ten miles of maintained hiking routes open.
One of the more interesting sites along the trails is the “Bear” tree found along the Riverwalk Trail. It’s an interesting natural phenomenon that at first glance actually looks like the silhouette of a climbing bear cub!
And although black bears range throughout Georgia, they are seldom seen in these parts. So the casual walker might be … (14 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Chattahoochee Bend State Park News: Phase I Trails Completed! - 05/15/12 10:40 PM
The Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park has announced that the construction of all approved trail paths is complete.
One can now hike from the Visitors Center and connect to the Riverwalk Trail and continue from there to the Bend Trail. There is also a short loop available (.9 miles) for those just wanting to stretch their legs. Here’s the latest Chattahoochee Bend State Park Trail Map.
Since there are some moderate changes in elevation it is wise to always carry water and perhaps an energy snack. The hot Georgia Summer can talk a toll on the ill-prepared hiker.
There is … (5 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Reflections along the path. Chattahoochee Bend State Park - 04/28/12 10:22 PM
A glint of azure tinged with greenThat beckons from the dark ravine,The forest reveals its hidden jewelA softly trembling shimmering pool!                  (R Weisser 2012)
We all know the old saying that you “can’t see the forest for the trees,” and we rarely apply it literally.
But as an avid hiker and naturalist, I have learned to keep an open eye along the trail for any nuance of nature that could easily be bypassed without so much as a second look!
So as I was walking the East-West Trail in Chattahoochee Bend State Park, … (5 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Hunting in Chattahoochee Bend State Park? Please say it isn’t so. - 09/10/11 02:23 AM
Chattahoochee Bend State Park will allow hunters to harvest deer and feral hogs and kill coyotes for two days this December.
Thirty bucks will allow you to harvest two bucks (or does) after a mandatory pre-hunt meeting with park officials.
After debating the issue on the “Friends” Facebook Group, I was a bit surprised to see that many support the hunt. One commenter even complained about seeing three herds of deer on a twilight ride. Another said that deer were a dangerous threat to park visitors.
That prompted this reply from me:
“I guess I'm just a silly old man, … (7 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Sometimes it’s the little things that make the difference! Wildflowers in Chattahoochee Bend State Park. - 07/24/11 03:11 AM

Yesterday I went on a photography expedition to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. It’s Georgia’s newest state park, and it is located right here in Coweta County.
Since it has opened on July 1, I have made over a dozen trips to the park and I now know my way around, and I have a great feel for where I am.
What makes the exploration a little more interesting is that I knew this area BEFORE it was a park. And it has been a challenge to locate old landmarks relative to the new access and park roads.
But parks are … (7 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Coweta County is now a “destination,” thanks to Chattahoochee Bend State Park! - 07/19/11 12:45 AM
In just a few short weeks since it has opened, Chattahoochee Bend State Park has transformed Newnan and Coweta County into a “destination!”
People now flock to visit this natural treasure which is now open to the public. And it’s not just people from around the state of Georgia either. I have seen license plates from many states and Canada in the park since opening day.
Chattahoochee Bend State Park is not just an amenity. It will now play a major role in the future of the county.
No longer will I have to explain where Coweta County is located or … (8 comments)

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is now open! Located in Coweta County Georgia, the 2,910 acre state park is one of the largest in Georgia. It officially was dedicated and opened on July 1, 2011.

The park has frontage on nearly 7 miles of the Chattahoochee River, and the public can access the river via an all-weather boat ramp. But the river is just part of what the park has to offer.
There are picnic sites along the river, pavilions which can be reserved for large groups, camping facilities for both RVs and tent campers, playground facilities, and currently six miles of … (14 comments)

chattahoochee bend state park: Chattahoochee Bend State Park is set to open Summer 2011. - 04/17/11 01:38 PM
Chattahoochee Bend State Park, the first Georgia state park in Coweta County, should be opened to the public in July 2011.
Construction on the facilities in the 2,900 acre state park is complete, and volunteers are working hard on trail construction through the remote areas along the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
The biodiversity of the park is represented by various ecosystems including river flood plains, freshwater marshes, pine and hardwood forests, and granite outcroppings. The number of different species of flora and fauna surpasses any other natural area in the county.
The proximity of the park to the majority of … (8 comments)
