lifestyle: Are you buying a house, a location, or a lifestyle? - 05/10/13 10:32 AM
Buying a personal residence is a unique endeavor. One must choose to purchase based on any number of requisite criteria.
What makes the decision process more challenging is the fact that every parcel of real estate is unique. No two are exactly alike.
And no two are in exactly the same place. We have ALL heard the mantra: "location. location. location."
So one does not only have to choose the sticks and bricks, but must also determine where the amalgamation of construction materials is situated.
Are there parks nearby? Hospitals? Good schools? Shopping? Restaurants? Transportation? Cultural amenities? Jobs?
Because you are not … (3 comments)

lifestyle: Does life control real estate location or does location control life? - 09/28/12 10:40 PM
After returning from a trip to my beloved Smoky Mountains, it occurred to me that the lifestyle that I enjoy while I am there is just everyday living for the year round residents.
We are often deeply rooted in our current communities, with jobs, schools, and proximity to friends and families. Even the thought of moving to a new location can be stressful and generate much anxiety and apprehension.
But there is a big world out there that can be discovered on a more intimate basis. It takes fortitude and perseverance to pull up stakes and head for pioneer territory, but … (14 comments)

lifestyle: Do you still have “zeal” for your job, or are you just going through the motions every day? - 07/17/11 12:59 AM
Our work should offer us more than mere financial compensation. Fulfillment results from a zeal for what you do and the satisfaction that results from a job well done.
The real estate business has changed a lot over the last five years. In many aspects, it is an entirely different occupation that requires new skill sets and a lot more patience. And the truth is, a lot of agents no longer enjoy what they do and have an eye open for “something else.”
But when the economy slows down, it’s hard enough to change jobs let alone embark on a new … (21 comments)

lifestyle: Is “Pool Culture” part of your area’s local lifestyle? - 06/04/11 01:22 AM
I had a call from a potential buyer that currently lives in a Northeastern state. As we delved into a conversation about the lifestyle in Newnan, he made an interesting observation:
He said that after looking at many aerial photos of Newnan, he noticed that very few homes had swimming pools. I guess that is something that I had never really thought about before.
And come to think about it, nearly all of my clients that requested swimming pools as part of their search criteria were out-of-staters, most from the Northeast.
So I blurted out that “Pool Culture” was not part … (92 comments)

lifestyle: Some simple Saturday thoughts about the fleeting nature of life in general. - 11/06/09 10:55 PM
It often seems that I do not have my priorities in order. I work many long hours and sneak in a few hours of “relaxation” in here and there, but even during those supposedly rest times, work is swirling around in my head.
The world is a big and beautiful place, and I have seen very little of it, as I prefer to remain in close proximity to home. It always seems that the simple everydsay tasks preoccupy my time!
And there are a lot of things that I have “put off until next year” for over twenty years now, and … (25 comments)

lifestyle: There is an underlying simplicity to life that is often overlooked. Is more always better? - 10/25/09 12:13 AM
You hear this all the time: “Life sure is complicated these days.” And quite frankly, it’s true.  When I was a young lad growing up in the 1950’s, we weren’t bothered by anything more technological that the three channels of television that were available. Our “remote control” was mom or dad asking one of us to flip the “dial” to another station. I can still hear the click, click, click of the selector. One of the earliest “innovations” that I can remember is the transistor radio. It amazed people that you could actually hold a radio in your hands and take … (23 comments)
